CX-5 / Re: Walk away auto lock and double locking
« Last Post by AahDee on December 08, 2023, 09:11:00 pm »
Whilst waiting for a reply to my original post, I have continued to investigate the double locking system. I originally found that Walk Away Auto Locking was available whilst scrolling through Settings on the Mazda Connect screen. I still cannot find any reference to it in the Owner’s Reference Guide (ORG).

I now think I have found the answer and I post the details below in case anyone else has the same problem.

The ORG refers to the "security indicator light" (outline of a car and a lock in red on a black background) on the instrument cluster/dash panel on the following pages:

Page 3-6 (3-5 and 3-6 cover the Double Locking System) states "The indicator light illuminates for about 3 seconds to indicate that the (double locking) system has been activated" (activation being made by one of the three methods - using the auxiliary key in the door lock; pressing the lock button on the transmitter twice within 3 seconds; or, with the advanced keyless function, pressing the request switch on the door handle twice within 3 seconds).

Page 3-13 details how to arm the Theft Deterrent System: “(With the advanced keyless function) press a request switch (on the door handle). The security indicator light in the instrument cluster flashes twice per second for 20 seconds. After 20 seconds the system is fully armed”.

So, if using the Walk Away Auto Lock function, how could I check whether the car has been double locked? The method I used was to place the keys in a plastic bag, stand by the door after getting out of the car so I could see the dash through the driver’s door window and simply throw the keys on to the lawn (hence the plastic bag) far enough away from the car to imitate walking away.

In my case, the indicator light did flash for 20 seconds, thus proving the Theft Deterrent System was fully armed.

I’m sure the same result would be obtained if simply giving the keys to a third party and getting them to walk away from the car or placing the keys in a Faraday pouch.

I hope this explanation is helpful to anyone who may be interested.

Maintenance / Re: Low Oil Pressure?
« Last Post by cx5er on December 08, 2023, 03:40:20 pm »
I have an update.

My car is a 2017 CX5 Skyactive diesel. Mazda have fixed it at a cost of £1600 and the car has been regularly serviced by a Mazda main dealer in the UK. The car has been used for long motorway miles so I am very sad that this has happened.

The problem with the Mazda engine is that the oil strainer blocks up causing P055F and P0524 error codes to come up. These codes cause the red oil pressure and yellow check engine light to come up on the dash.

The cause of the fault is that the strainer was blocked by carbon deposits. The strainer is essentially a filter inside the car, which cannot be replaced without significant dismantling of the oil sump, removal of the oil pump, and dismantling the oil pump to get to the oil strainer. The oil strainer costs just £25 but the labour made up the lion share of the cost. Why would you put a filter in such an inaccessible part of the car? Oil filters, air filters and even cabin filters are easy to get to - so why do this? Why make it so hard to replace a part that is going to get blocked?

This is my first and last Mazda - awful experience. Costly and stressful. Not impressed with Mazda at all.
I cannot recommend a Mazda or a CX5 to anyone; in fact I would urge everyone to avoid buying this car.

Maintenance / Re: Oil change

Yes, the oil data must be reset or you will get a warning light.

Would that be an engine oil warning and check engine light showing code P055F ?

If the oil data is not reset at the time of changing oil, could this result in a check engine light (CEL) MIL P055F error and oil light on a CX-5 2.2D 2017 model?

Just asking as I have had this issue and noticed that the previous owner had an oil change in May followed by a pressure sensor change in June.

There is sufficient oil in engine and when I checked under the oil filler cap and I can see oil coming in.

CX-5 / Walk away auto lock and double locking
« Last Post by AahDee on November 29, 2023, 08:59:43 pm »
I have recently purchased a 72 reg CX-5 with the advanced keyless function and have read and understood how to activate the double locking system as detailed in the Owners Reference Guide.

Having started to use the Walk Away auto lock function, I can find no reference in the Guide or online as to whether this automatically activates the double locking system.

So, to enable double locking, should I forget about the Walk Away function and continue to press the lock button twice on the car key transmitter, or the request switch on the door handle?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Troubleshooting / Re: Coolant level
« Last Post by speedy mazda 2 on November 25, 2023, 08:47:57 pm »
Hi Steve think I’ve worked out the radiator cap opens to allow coolant to flow in the surge tank and sucks it back into the radiator before the coolant cools and radiator cap pressure valve closes ????????.

Exterior Trim / Re: power window motor running while mirror not moving.

Hi

I had the same on our 2012 year CX-5 probably around 3 years ago now.  In the end I managed to remove the entire door mirror and take it apart and remove the little motor.  If I recall the plastic gear on the motor had stripped so ultimately down to poor quality as a metal item would have lasted forever.  It means our car's mirror doesn't fold on the passenger side but does still function for mirror adjustment.  Wasn't worth the cost of a Mazda replacement part but I think there are copy versions available for a lot less so would love to hear if anyone's had any access with those.  I suspect you may still need to transfer over the coloured outer covering.  I seem to recall the outer covering was not that easy to remove.

General Discussion / Re: Diesel engine blown

Hi Jaydee and Matey80,

I know this is an old post but am wondering if you have any update on your situation. The exact same thing has happened to our car. We bought a 2013 CX-5 2.2L diesel turbo two years ago. After a year we started having problems with the engine overheating until finally the car broke down and we had to be towed 4 months ago. We have been told the engine needs to be replaced so now we are searching for a replacement engine while our mechanic has the car at his garage. As you can imagine there is a huge expense involved and we are at our wits end trying to find a solution. These engines seem to be hard to come by. Can anyone suggest a reputable company that sells replacement engines for this car? We are beased in Spain. Thank you.

Got the same problem. To stop motor running had to remove inner panel to disconnect wiring. Tried the mirror fuse in block in footwear but had no effect on door mirror operation. Next disconnected wiring from mirror switch in drivers door but although this stopped the motor it stopped the drivers window from operating correctly. Lost auto open/close function and would only cluse with repeated operation of the switch, all other windows worked as normal, strange.
Has anyone tried these Chinese mirrors?
