Towbar

(1/1)

Iya:
Hi all
"Upgrading" a 2018 Sport Nav+ to a 2019 GT Sport Auto. I will need a towbar on the GT (cant take the old one off !). I was quoted £800+ by dealer, and told that 3rd party fitters "didnt know how to fit properly". I'm guessing this is sales talk, especially as I contacted an independant fitter (who incidentally re-wired the original Mazda fitted one so my caravan fridge works while towing !!), and apart from quoting 495+VAT, didn't flinch when I said it was for a CX-5 2019.

Anyone substantiate Mazda's statement? Or will I be OK with a 3rd party fitter?

Regards
Iya

The dealer I bought my CX5 from used a local caravan retailer to fit a tow bar for me prior to purchase. Bosal detachable swan neck with twin electrics was around 600 all in. So, as mine was supplied and fitted by an independent, I would suggest that you find another Mazda garage as the one you are using is ripping you off.

Recently changed from a 2018 Cx5 with a Mazda retractable towbar to a 2020 model, The Dealer Newport Mazda swopped over the towbar and electrics free of charge as part of the deal.

When I had a removable tow bar fitted to a new CX5 auto in 2016 it was £400, it was  arranged by the dealer and I paid the dealer direct as if there was a problem later with electronics they could not blame a 3rd party although the work was contracted out by the dealer. Towbar was a Brink with 13 pin electrics.

Iya:
thanks all
