My driving lights where not working today when I left the garage it was dark this morning, and dark when I parked back in the garage.
Is there certain conditions for them to work, or have I inadvertently altered a setting to disable them.
DL's on last car where always on.
I haven't had chance yet to investigate, still drying out from fishing all day in rain!
I stop has never worked yet either!

Ok I've had a look at the E manual, looks like they come on when the car is moving, old car lights came on when car running and handbrake released, so sorted.

How do you know that they were not working? My garage is dark compares to outside especially this time of year and the car sensors appear to detect artificial light and so turn on the main lights which auto turn off DL's.

I noticed that the DRLs turn off when you put the handbrake on in traffic. Seems a bit odd to me!

DRL = Daylight Running Lights i.e shows that you are moving.
Handbrake on in traffic, therefore not moving, ergo DRL's turn off.

I don't use the auto position when in the garage, the headlights reflect which is distracting.
With the last car I used the running lights to provide light for reversing out, and they came on when stationary once the handbrake was released. My garage entrance is only 2.1M, so I use two mirrors picking up both sides of the car, headlights render them useless.

Ah, ok understood. I've had the light switches on my cars set to 'auto' for goodness knows how long now that they often get stuck in this position. ;D

Is there anyway to turn these off? I don't see the point in lights coming on during the day

Yep, European legislation in 2008 required all new vehicles type tested after Feb 2011 have day running lights on when the engine is running.

Ummm......LED DRLs on the CX-5 turn off if you apply the handbrake when stopped in traffiic, even if the engine is running? You think someone should tell Mazda?

Oops, I forgot about that small point :-[
One thing that puzzles me though? I don't know this for sure, but I believe that some cars have rear lights on when front DRL's are on but most don't? I think this regulation is one which in some respects is a backward step, as it results in some people driving round in fog or spray with no rear lights on.

Surely if you are driving in Fog or spray then you should be using your headlamps. Which of course in turn, deactivates DRL's

Rule 226
You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves.

True. Problem is that there are a lot of drivers who think DRL's are the same as headlights, so just drive on those oblivious to the fact that they then have no rears on at all. Also those who forget that auto headlights DO NOT work in all circumstances where headlights may be required, such as bright foggy mornings, etc.

I don't believe the problem is with rain or spray etc, Will, as any sensible driver (cough) would turn on headlamps. What I've noticed on many ocassions is that more often than not, drivers are leaving the light switch in the 'Auto' position with the result that when they enter a tunnel for example the headlights automatically turn on. However, the rear lights don't and this is a fact that is often overlooked.

I hear what you are saying, but surely if the lights ARE on Auto, (or even if they are turned on manually) then when the headlamps come on, the rear lights will come on as a matter of course and the DRL's will go out.

Oh dear how embrassaring I've just learnt that the auto headlights have 5 sensitively settings, look on vehicle on set up mode, don't know if this will apply to face-lift model, ours is set to meduim

Yes I found that in the first week.
Its worth spending sometime scrolling through all the menus and settings.

This is something else that I'll have to check up on although I can't recall having seen it mentioned the last 200 times I've looked through the manual. 8) 8)
