I don't believe the problem is with rain or spray etc, Will, as any sensible driver (cough) would turn on headlamps. What I've noticed on many ocassions is that more often than not, drivers are leaving the light switch in the 'Auto' position with the result that when they enter a tunnel for example the headlights automatically turn on. However, the rear lights don't and this is a fact that is often overlooked.

True. Problem is that there are a lot of drivers who think DRL's are the same as headlights, so just drive on those oblivious to the fact that they then have no rears on at all.

Ah !   Now there we have an educational problem.

I hear what you are saying, but surely if the lights ARE on Auto, (or even if they are turned on manually) then when the headlamps come on, the rear lights will come on as a matter of course and the DRL's will go out.

Mine do.

Well if nothing else, this thread has probably made more than one person read their handbook again.  That's cool.   ;D

And rmvf, I have always had this         sitting on my desk at the ready in case it's needed.    ;) ;)

This is something else that I'll have to check up on although I can't recall having seen it mentioned the last 200 times I've looked through the manual.  8) 8)
