Title: Auto Folding Door Mirrors
Post by: davcas on May 26, 2014, 09:41:13 pm
Anyone know if its possible to change the settings on the car so the door mirrors automatically fold when the car stops and closes down instead of having to use the manual twist of the button?

If there is, I've yet to find it and I've had mine since August 2012... It would be a useful addition, though, and would probably only need a software mod.

Its easy, but costly. Mazda sell you a kit for around £70 excluding fitting. Look on their website under accessories.

Interesting - hadn't spotted that option. Any idea how long it takes to fit, ie. likely labour time? Does the kit consist of a couple of bits of wire and an instruction book or something more complex?

Bit bullet and just paid £125 for dealer to fit the auto folding kit (parts, labour, VAT incl). Now the mirrors fold when you lock the car, and unfold when you start it up.

I think it's great, and almost worth the £125. My wife isn't speaking to me.

Think I may have a look at this :)

I can recommend several ways of ensuring one's wife stops talking to you.

But aside from that I love the auto fold mirrors, it's a small benefit really but pleases me every day, and is a useful visual signal that the car is locked. ::)

Glad you like the functionality of the auto door mirrors. Did you fit the auto folding mirror kit yourself or did you have the dealer do it?
If so, was it easy to do?
If not, how much did the dealer charge you for doing it?

I miss the folding mirrors so much - I've got to get this done a.s.a.p.

125 dealer fitted incl parts, labour and VAT. The kit is about 60 or something so I was happy to pay them to fit it.

Did it take them long to do the job?

They had it for about half a day, probably only took 90 mins I'd guess? I got a fixed quote from the dealer in advance so I knew it'd be 125 all in.

I'll talk to the dealers on Monday and see what they say regarding fitted price. I'll come back and let everyone know.

Thanks folks.

Thanks to andyC for highlighting this kit . I went to my local dealer last Friday to order one and they told me it could not be done , "it's just the way they are sir" they even brought out the senior technician to confirm it was not possible!!  So I went back the next day with a print out from Mazda uk website. Ordered one up and fitted it myself . Well would you trust someone who said it could not be done?
It consists of a small wiring loom with a relay that is fitted in the drivers door loom between the mirror switch and door lock plus a very comprehensive  set of step by step instructions.  It took about 2 hours but I was being very carefull and double checking everything.
It cost £60 for the kit so the dealer prices including fitting seem quite reasonable

twabrigs - sorry I missed your post. I had the work done by Hodgson Mazda in Gateshead - it was done while I waited - it took an hour and it was the first one they'd fitted. I bought the car from SG Petch (Durham) but they wanted £106 but couldn't install for about a week.

Johnnyoro - you're a brave man tackling that job - but I understand why! It's astonishing that customers know more about the products that the dealers sell!

Ah - thanks. Am in Fife 3 hours north of you so it's not quite worth switching my dealer to Gateshead..! Good price though.

Just been in Stonacre Doncaster they've quoted me £271 to have this fitted >:(
SKIPPA which dealer did you use.  £96 plus diesel would be a lot cheaper than Stoneacre

DHZ7945 - Hodgson Mazda are in Gateshead and its very near the Metro Centre (you could take the missus shopping lol!). I bought the car from SG Petch in Durham and they quoted £106 and were prepared to match the Hodgson price but couldn't do the job quickly. However, I believe they have a Mazda dealership in Darlington which would save you another 30 miles each way.

Surely there must be a Mazda dealership closer to you that would do this at a sensible price.

Just phoned Perry's Barnsley. They will do the job for £113. So it looks like Stoneacre Doncaster don't know what they are doing. They said that both door cards would have to be removed and replaced.(don't thing so) So that gives me a lot of faith in the Doncaster branch (I think not)
Where do you thing the cars going for its first service???

After having been quoted £271 pounds to have the module for the folding mirrors. I went onto Facebook (Thank you Big Al for the tip) and reported to Mazda my feelings over the matter of being charged £158 pounds over other dealers prices, and this is what they've come back to me with

Dear David sorry to hear about the frustration with Stoneacre Mazda, we will raise this with our dealer operations team. Each dealer is privately owned and has their own labour rate so this will vary from dealer to dealer. Each dealer has a guide labour time for each accessory also so the only difference should be in the hourly charge. As advised we will raise your feedback with Stoneacre Mazda which we thank you for.

The job only requires the door card on the drivers side to be removed , an experienced Mazda technician should be able to complete this job in an hour easy .  The accessory is available on the Mazda website for £67 inc vat and an hourly rate of    £40 to £60 depending on dealer seems reasonable?  What does anyone else think?

I agree. Thats why I reported them to Mazda. If I'd have seen it in the accessories part of the brochure to begin with I'd have had it fitted when I ordered the car. I had the scuff plates fitted no problem. Anyway the jobs been done now for £113 and they work a treat.. It's like magic  :D ;D

I ordered one of these auto-fold mirror kits from my dealer today. They're charging me £97-odd to supply and fit. I do think they should be standard - I'd have ordered one prior to collecting the car if I had known but I don't think the price is too bad.

Also ordered scuff plates - apparently only illuminated ones are available now.
