Title: roof rail
Post by: charles on March 28, 2015, 10:35:50 am
hi, anyone fitted the CX5 with roof rails?
i was looking for the side rails, front to back, but apparently cannot get this for the european model. even searched E bay.
so i think my only options is the cross bar, which is the factory standard one.
any ideas, since i find them spoil the looks of the vehicle

It seems that they are unavailable in Europe, but are in the USA.
From my understanding the European and American CX-5'S have different roof mountings.
One bolt in Europe, two in America.
Therefore imports wouldn't fit.
Can't understand why one hasn't been manufactured for the EU.

I checked this thoroughly when visiting the USA last month. Gmsal is correct. No chance to fit the USA version directly on the European model. There are two holes  on the USA version and one on the Euro. The Mazda dealer I talked to got this confirmed by Mazda HQ. I agree it is a pity that the roof rails are not available for the European version. The USA ones look very nice but the available European crossbars are just plain ugly.

Just fitted a nice set of roof bars from Micks Garage. Italian made and not as neat as the Mazda, but under £100.
Not worried about the looks as they only take 5 minutes to remove when you don't need them.

Has anyone come across these while looking for roof rails?

They appear to be a turkish company that make aftermarket accessories for various vehicles and they say these are an exact fit for european CX5s. Other than the link above I've only found a few ebay out of stock entries and some references to them on the german CX5 forum. They seem legit but I was wondering if anyone had any dealing with them before I do some more digging?

In case anyone's interested, I checked a few european forums and the reviews/opinions on there seemed positive so I bit the bullet and bought the rails above. They arrived yesterday and I tried to fit them in last night in failing light but gave up. Might try again tonight weather permitting, other than that I'll have to leave until the weekend.

The problem was lining up the bolts with the holes in the roof. There's about a 3 inch gap between the holes and where the bolts attach to the rails which means the bolt can move around quite a lot and once they're in place on the rail you lose sight of the hole you're lining up with.

If anyone has any tips on this kind of problem they would be greatly appreciated  :)

I fitted those last week to my 2016 CX-5 and the spade feet have gouged my nice black roof recess, even with the supplied sticky plastic fitted beforehand. Very annoying.
