Fuel Tank Size
« on: May 26, 2015, 04:08:00 pm »
I have noticed that the range displayed on my car does not seem to tie in with the size of the fuel tank.  Each time I have ran the car down to less than 10 miles on the range indicator I have filled the tank to the brim but it has taken only 50 litres whereas the tank is seemingly 56 litres.  I can understand them erring on the side of caution but by over 10% seems excessive?  Does everyone else only manage to fit 50 litres in when "empty" or is my sensor off?

Most I have managed in 16.000 miles, with fuel warning light on, is 48Litres. I assume fuel tank is still the same as 2013 model?

Just checked my (sad anorak) spreadsheet and in the last 52,000 miles the maximum amount I've put in at one time is 51.27 litres, but I don't think that I've ever gone below about 35-40 miles remaining. Having said that, there's already a known discrepancy of about 5% in the trip computer as the average MPG is always out by this amount from the measured MPG on a tank for tank basis. That reduces the 10% to a 5% safety margin which seems more realistic.
