Title: Worn clutch/bearing or DMF?
Post by: ebod on October 23, 2016, 09:27:18 pm
Hi , my 5 is a 3 y/o ex lease high miler. I got it in June with 106k miles and now its got 114k. Engine has been fine though I still can't tell whether/when its doing a DPF regen.

Anyway its the gearbox/clutch/flywheel that's a concern as this car was used for towing a caravan before I got it.
Whilst its fine in all other gears, engaging and disengaging 1st is a bit clunky, and now when engaging the biting point when cold, the car emits a Chewbakka whiney noise on pickup.
The feel when in traffic is that the clutch feels wobbly/out of balance. But there is NO clutch slip at all.

My suspicion is that the clutch bearing is worn and maybe the Chewbakka noise is the springs in the clutch or pressure plate. I've searched for a clutch kit and its looking like ~£350 quid alone. But the DMF is £500+!!!!
What I'd like guidance on before I start talking to a garage is how to tell whether a DMF is worn or not.
Also has anybody heard of any places that recondition DMF's ?
Cheers
