Satnav/Andriod Auto/Waze

Just ordered the AA/CP system for my 2018 SportNav 184 2.2D with safety pack. Love the car but disappointed with the satnav, so have fitted my "old" TomTom 6100 as it has realtime traffic (as well as lifetime maps & speed cams).

Does my phone need to be cabled in, or can it stay in my pocket?
Does the Mazda satnav get "removed" or just disabled once I have the upgrade?
I understand that they add a 2.1amp usb socket. Is that in the central armrest, or below the centre controls?

I think the phone will need to be connected by cable. The mazda satnav stays as all the map information is on the SD card - you may as well keep the card and update as necessary. As you have the 2018 version the existing socket panel in the central armrest will get replaced. The dealer should provide an explanatory leaflet for AA/Carplay when it's been installed.

I have the system fitted and it is great in my opinion.  Your phone needs to be connected with a cable for the system to work and if it isn't plugged in the screen will look the same as now.  The existing satnav system is still installed and can continue to be used independently as the entertainment system stays the exact same but you then have the option to launch android auto in my case and it is a standalone group of pages on the system.  The new usb port is a higher rated port and is under the main console where it is at present next to the SD card slot.

For what its worth, I have stuck with using the built in sat nav rather than waze/maps as I find the maps clearer on the built in.

I installed Android Auto on my Moto phone recently but find the application very clunky;
 I continually get message that it's fetching my music or something similar.

As soon as USB lead plugged in it shuts down existing Bluetooth connection, which I
used prior to Android.
I think I'll uninstall in very near future, as I don't seem to be getting any benefits

It might be worth keeping AA on your phone as new updates to the app may make some improvements?

Yes it is already active on phone.
When phone is connected by cable to car, Android takes over any existing
B/tooth connection; one wonders, if they'll do a version of which works wirelessly
