Key low battery warning!
« on: December 02, 2015, 10:06:54 am »
The car is only 18months old and the low battery key warning indicator is on. Just checked the 3v battery it has 2.94v in it?
Fitted new battery as the key was apart. Only time will tell.
I bought a Mazda because of there reputation, starting to doubt this espially after the recent gearbox problem.

I may be wrong - usually am  :( - but I seem to recall reading in the e-manual that it is recommended to change the battery every 12 months as a matter of course.

Yep, the manual says battery lasts about a year.

My last car lasted about two years before the warning, but the fob still continued to work.
Never seen anything like that in the 4.5 years I had the Nissan, or any other issue, unlike Mazda cars.

Yes but they are very easy to change, and you you can buy a card of 8 mixed ones from pound land 2 of them are correct for Mazda. But I cant remember what they cost   ;D

My info relates to a keyless entry Toyota we owned but it's probably the same.  The key constantly 'looks for' the receiver (whether it be the door lock or the ignition) therefore it uses more power than a key which is dormant unless you press a button.

18 months sounds OK to me, I used my first remote for that time then switched to the spare remote which lasted me until the car went back at 40 months (I did replace the one in the original key). One thing to bear in mind is that, if a battery is used up, it's possible to get almost full voltage reading from it, but there will be almost no amps as the power has drained.

Give the dealer a ring they might have to reset something after 18 months, it could just be an automatic timed reminder.
Mine came up on the last car, but the key continued to work up to the second service when I asked the dealer to change the battery, could be they just did a reset.
