Well, no-one ever wants to have to post in this topic but today it's my turn. This happened overnight. Our neighbour heard a noise about 11pm and looked out but saw nothing. I suspect someone driving home from the pub...they obviously smacked it pretty hard and have lost their own windscreen or driver's window.
My car's not really driveable; light bulbs intact but the wheel arch liner is fouling the tyre. I've removed the coloured bumper section in one of the photos as it was flapping about as well.

Ouch! That's not going to be a simple fix...
I don't suppose for a minute that the local constabulary will have much interest in tracking down the culprit. Whoever did that has sustained some pretty bad damage themselves. Maybe worth a call around some local repairers to see if anyone has come in with OSF damage, missing glass and white paint scuffs on? Even if you do find them, you've got to prove it though. This is one of the reasons I went for a front and rear dashcam with parking mode.

Cheers, it'll be quite a big job I think, bodywork is expensive. Police coming round tomorrow. We're very near the Tay Road Bridge so there could well be CCTV there of a car with no windscreen at 11pm, who knows.
Have posted on facebook asking locals for info.
The dashcam is sounding more and more like a good idea.

Looking at the debris, unless it was a very old car that hit you, I think you're looking for one with a missing side or rear window(s) rather than windscreen?

Because it's in a million bits you mean? Yes, could well be side window rather than screen.

Exactly, laminated windscreens don't break like that.

Was just about to say the same thing. My first car - a Fiat 127 - didn't have a laminated screen (well, not until a stone chip on the Isle of Skye made it very suddenly opaque - then it got one!). Every car since then has. So basically I'd guess unless the car is over 30 years old... ;)

Another theory is it's a rear side window. A neighbour thinks they were woken by the sound of someone reversing swiftly then a bang. A separate source on facebook suggests the dent in my car and the way the glass has landed could be from the open passenger door of a car reversing. All this, and tyre marks 4 doors down reported to the police. I don't expect them to find the culprit though.

Thankfully the insurance company authorised the repair today. Probably be into May before I get the car back.
Meanwhile I am "enjoying" a Toyota Aygo, roomy in the front, tiny in the back, noisy and gutless. Bizarrely it has home comforts like bluetooth phone / audio, cruise control and a reversing camera.

They are not bad little city cars to be fair but you need to keep the revs up to keep them moving. With the revs up above 5000rpm they go quite well :)

Well, finally got the CX5 back today after SEVEN weeks at the body repair place. Pitiful how long it has taken. I haven't had a chance to examine it properly but it looks okay so far.
Total cost £5000 plus £740 hire car so I didn't grudge my £210 excess too much.
CCTV didn't turn up anything so the scumbag who did this has got away with it.
Interesting sort of 'first impressions' of the car having not seen it for 7 weeks: the power is excellent, seats very comfortable etc but the audio / sat nav dash looks very small and a bit dated. I guess they addressed that to some extent with the second generation.

The list of replacement parts was quite impressive including a new silencer (exhaust tip was damaged so whole section had to be replaced).

Glad you've finally got your car back twabrigs.
It's a pity that the hit and run got away with it.
