Replacing the NB1 head unit
« on: October 04, 2018, 10:33:58 pm »
I'm sure this must have been thought about before, but can't find it on the forum. Is it possible to replace the NB1 unit as fitted in my 2012 car with the later unit - would that require a new rotary  controller or other parts? Many thanks.

I don't know, but be aware the MZD system has a volume knob next to the commander knob, since there's no buttons on the stereo face (like the NB1 has).

Having taken mine apart to do the CP/AA upgrade, I can confirm that you'd need the rotary controller module since that's the main control for the unit.  Which may make an upgrade problematic since you'd need to change most of the centre consol in order to fit the rotary controller I suspect.

Hmmm - maybe that's a step too far . . . Has anyone fitted a non-Mazda unit, e.g. Android?

I've fitted the same head unit as in the above Reddit post - see my post here about it (http://mazdacx5forums.co.uk/index.php?topic=337.msg5864#msg5864). I'm very pleased with the Sony head unit and it has far more functionality than the old NB1 - definitely worth the work to change it.
Versatuner 175bhp map, H&R Wheel Spacers, Red Ambient Lighting, Sony XAV-AX100, Upgraded speakers, Leather Handbrake/Gearlever Gaiters + Armrest, Red Door Piping LED Interior/Exterior Lighting, Exhaust Tips...and about 50kg of sound deadening!
