Satnav can't cope with Irish (ROI) Postcodes
« on: June 07, 2019, 03:52:29 pm »
Irish Republic introduced their version of post codes (called Eirecodes) in 2015;
disappointing my newly updated map can't cope with them :o

After entering first letter, you ten need to enter numerals; however, the numbers
tab on keyboard is greyed out, after entering first digit :-\.

Have asked Mazda Hands Free Support (which is in Germany),
are they intending to fix. Obviously more of an issue for drivers situated there :-*

UPDATE:

Had a reply from HERE who are Mazda's map suppliers; apparently MAZDA
does not pay for Irish postcodes.
Their e mail here;
http://gj.unospace.net/CX-5/Eirecodes.pdf
I have relayed on to Mazda asking why they don't buy the Irish post codes,
so they properly work in Irish Republic.

Saying thanks to Gel as no thanks button. Just imagine the outcry from the US if zip codes weren't included in the search ;) Even more reason to have to use Crapplay/Android Auto
The internet is a huge dumpster. You have to look hard to find anything useful.

This was Mazda UK's  reply to my complaint at lack of Irish Postcodes:

Thank you for taking the time to ask us why we do not have ROI postcodes, for UK specification vehicles this is not an option we have chosen to make available for this market.

Thank you for your comments and for your feedback in this regard.

Yours sincerely

I usually try to enter locations via the map coordinates as it is more accurate. Google maps accept Irish post codes, right click on the post code location red balloon and select 'what's here.' I know this is a workaround and I apologise if you know about it already.

Thanks for that.
I don't know quite how I did it, but at a pit stop, I looked up something on Google Maps. Driving home the CX-5's screen was showing my journey home but on a Google Map, which is very different to the native map's appearance.

Your car comes with CarPlay/Android Auto so guessing that's why Google maps displayed on your screen.
