Given we have almost identical cars xTrailman, and I don't have a connection problem any more (post the initial v56 update), then it must be either the type of phone you have - or the fact that you chose silver paint instead of red ;-)

Nonetheless it's a pain when it doesn't connect all the time as I remember.

What's really annoying  is I had connection problems with my last car, with a Galaxy Y brand new on contract.
The phone was on the compatibility list so should have connected every time, not 9 out of ten times.

So I borrowed my daughters HTC wildfire S, which connected every time as expected, but didn't receive text messages.
When the contract ran out I took a HTC desire 510, which again connected every time for the year used with the car, and also downloaded texts and emails. With that success I them bought a second HTC 510, and again it worked every time over the year with the car.

Now onto the second CX-5, different system I believe, but my 510 is on the compatibility list.
Not only that I tested the phone on a 2015 test car, it paired and connected as you would expect with no problems.

So on the day I pick up my new 2015 car the salesman attempts to get the phone to pair.
After around 5 attempts it finally pairs and connects so ten minutes or more trying.

Only to fail connecting after a few days with intermittent connecting and failure to connect every since.
And after 3 trips to the dealer its still doing the same. For some reason Mazda appear to be reluctant to replace any part, all I've had over the hours the cars been in the garage is two software updates.

Dealer says he will now have to ask Mazda how to proceed. I'm not happy, after working as an electrical technician for 25 years I would be looking for a new job if I hadn't at least changed a part by now.

Thank you Deepjoy22!

Can you confirm below procedure for the install?

As I am worried that, when the car is in ACC mode, it remains only 25 mins in that mode and then switches off.

The installation process however takes some 40 minutes?

 1) Format drive as FAT32
 2) copy the files over using a WINDOWS computer (only the failsafe.up and reinstall.up)
 3) plug into the usb slot of the car
 4) set the car into accessory (one push of the push start, do not start the ignition)
 5) press the music, favourites, and mute buttons in your car all at the same time and hold for 2s
 6) enter code 3, enter, if there's any DTCs enter 2 to clear them
 7) enter code 99 to start the update process
 8) install the failsafe.up
 9) install reinstall.up
 10) done

If you got that list from here https://www.reddit.com/r/mazda3/comments/3d5lvr/mazda_infotainment_update/ then you might not have noticed that the very last post states:

I just installed the 56.00.230 EU-version picked up from Mazda3revolution. Keep the engine running while installing it, because around 40% it cuts power if just in standby.

I think this is one of the reasons that the dealers charge for firmware updates (at least over here) as it's quite labour intensive in so much as the technician has to attend the vehicle periodically (pressing the brake pedal in the Automatic mode for example) to ensure the motor doesn't cut out during the firmware update.

Thanks Deeps!

From the same source: you can also attach a battery-charger whilst upgrading....

I suppose that driving the car will also do the trick?

I just tested it myself....

Indeed, the software can be installed whilst driving.

Within above procedure, proceed as follows:
- Start the car, remain idling, and set the I-stop function OFF.
- Continue with points 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9. This only takes a couple of minutes.
- Start driving your nice CX-5; within 40 minutes the software will be successfully updated.
- During that time, the screen will be dimmed somewhat but will remain readable.
Make sure NOT to stop the engine whilst updating.

Just be aware that the version mentioned above is not the latest for the CX5.

I'm having trouble working out why anyone would want to install a older version?

Alan,

Do you know if it is worthwhile to install that version vs. 55.00.230 ?

Well, mine went in for a CMU replacement (second one  ::)) and they did it anyway. I didn't know in advance about it. So far the only thing I've noticed different is that it seems quicker when flicking through the various menu screens. That could just be a perception thing, though (or just wishful thinking). Haven't spotted any other changes as yet, but then I didn't on previous updates either.

Hi P36cyq.  It is pretty much as you say above.  The full Mazda instructions also say to remove the Navigation SD card at the start.

To avoid the switching off of the system part way through you just need to either depress the clutch (manual cars) or the brake pedal (automatics) before teh 25 minutes - that resets the timer.  Yesterday I installed 56.00.511 EU - I just sat in the car and read a newspaper while it ran as I knew I'd remember to hit the brake; I could have gone indoors but then chances are I'd get distracted.   40 minutes later, all done.

I can send the full Mazda handout if you want but it's as above with lots of screenshots.

I've just had my 3rd visit to the dealer to sort out my intermittent phone connecting problem.

They have downloaded the latest version which is now 56.00.511
Will have to see how it goes.

Ironically since the new software today my nav failed just got the circle and the message loading, powering of the car made no difference.
However once i fitted the original card it started working, then strangely on replacing the backup the nav again started to work?

My dealer phoned a few days ago to say they have ordered a connectivity module for my bluetooth issues, thankfully as the phone again failed to connect again today, after working for the last five days.

Another strange thing is i was unable to play the USB by just turning on the sound while on the nav screen, but then it would if i viewed the music screen, it did this twice?

Later after i got the nav to work the USB turned on while on the nav screen, as it did before the update.

Not impressed.

I had problems with the nav again yesterday, it failed to get me to my destinnation but then so did my stanby Garmin, so it could just be the area.

Nav kept coming up with "a part of the route requires special permits" has anyone else had this?

Yes. It refers to roads which are privately owned. I get it with my work address - the last 50m from the main road to the office is not public road, although you wouldn't know to look at it.
