Sat Nav day/night settings
« on: January 26, 2016, 09:59:38 pm »

My Sat Nav is set to auto for the day/night settings, however it stays permanently on day setting, making it very bright when driving at night.
Has anyone else had this problem or could suggest a solution? I have tried re-saving the settings but no luck.

I have the 2013 2.2 AWD Sport Nav auto model.

I think you can override the day/night setting using the instrument panel light adjuster/trip meter reset (in case you need to drive with lights on during the day - which dims the infotainment screen - but need the screen on the daytime setting). Try rotating the panel light/trip meter reset slightly anti-clockwise.

As above. If the display has gone into night mode because the lights have gone on during the day, twisting the trip reset clockwise overrides that and brightens the display again. It then remembers that and stays in day mode at night. When the lights are on, twist it anti-clockwise to dim the display again, that should restore normality. It's a daft system, it would be better to use a sensor in the cabin to control the display brightness rather than just checking whether the lights are on or not.

Its a poor solution though isn't it, new model does the same, but I believe the day and night brightness can be adjusted in setting.

It could be improved. The big issue I see with it is that if driving in summer, you come across a very wet road and a lot of spray. So you turn the lights on manually as its too bright to do it automatically, and the display goes dim so you can't see it. It really needs a separate light sensor in the cabin to control the display.
