Title: TOW ELECTRICS
Post by: WIZZ on April 12, 2018, 02:12:38 pm
Has anyone heard of the car switching off the trailer lights when it hasn't been used for a while ? That is the story they gave me at the tow bar shop, they took out the fuse & put it back in & all worked ?

How long's a while? I've been towing a caravan and from time to time had a bicycle carrier on the tow ball during the summer months for the past 2 years. Obviously neither have been used for the approx 4-5 winter months but never had any trouble with lighting when hitching up again the following season. I don't swallow the fuse story myself which, being a solid item, is either blown or not - there's nothing half way.

It was fitted in November & the first time I used it was Easter, I think that was BS, perhaps they never put a fuse in there.
The electrics on these modern cars are so complicated no way I could call them out on it, though.
