Modification Projects / Re: Fitting a dashcam in New CX-5
« Last Post by philipg on April 08, 2024, 04:39:45 pm »
I've just used the Dongar connector to fit a Nextbase dashcam. This is a "traditional" dashcam, but the Dongar plug and socket allows you to draw power from the supply to the auto dimming mirror, and avoids the hassle of routing cable from the fusebox and behind the seals around the door frame. It's an easy fit, nestling behind the plastic shroud behind the mirror. Unclip the power supply, insert the identical male plug into the female receptor, and v.v with the other plug, and you're left with a USB power supply for any dashcam that uses a USB supply. My Mazda is the 2023 Homura.  NB Dongar is supplied from USA and cost about £38 including shipping. NBB it needs the 10 pin plug, not the 5 pin plug recommended by Dongar's web chat facility. Best to unclip the shroud first to see your power supply behind the mirror.

Vehicle Electrics / Cluster change KPH TO MPH JDM model
« Last Post by JDMgarage on April 08, 2024, 11:18:15 am »
I found that it is very hard to find someone to do the IC speedo cluster or even a dial to convert from km/h to Mp/h and change the language on the small display. I did find a way to do this with coding in the end after first trying to find a new dial etc.
What have other owners done with imported cx-5's?

Why not ask a tyre/brake specialist?

Steering/Suspension/Brakes / rear disc replacement with electronic handbrake
« Last Post by ridgerunner on April 04, 2024, 07:03:22 pm »
rear discs corroded and dragging on an  18 months old car [2022 model]. Thought i would try my local independent garage but they said if the car has electronic parking brake then a special tool is needed which he does not have. Is this correct or should i try other garages in 18 months time

CX-5 / Re: Walk away auto lock and double locking
« Last Post by bw10030 on April 03, 2024, 11:15:44 am »
Be cautious! My wife managed to lock herself out of her CX3 - she put her handbag which contained amongst other 'stuff' the car key fob, and her mobile phone, having unlocked the car on the back seat. As soon as she shut the rear door the car self locked, leaving her stranded. Apparently, mobile phones can 'mask' the car fob signal, so the car does not see the key and autolocks. I had to bring her the spare keys to get in.

Now I tried the same in my 72 reg CX5, with exactly the same result - locked out of the car - but at home with access to the spare keys.

So on both cars I have disabled the autolocks function- it's no real hardship to press the fob button to open the car - especially as the touch to unlock function on the doors is extremely temperamental (it rarely works for me!).

Once again, a badly thought through solution to a problem which really shouldn't exist!

Good luck!

Powered seats are fed independent of the Start button. It's so that you can move the seat before getting in (if some short ar$e has been in before you).
