Title: double cracked screen
Post by: Sparkie666 on April 08, 2020, 05:37:16 pm
A few days ago I woke up to find a crack on the bottom right of the windscreen, about 6 inches long. By the end of the day it had increased to approx 12 and now goes from edge to edge diagonal across the bottom right corner. There are no chips or any other obvious damage. About 3 days later a crack has appeared on the left side bottom (pretty much exactly opposite). Again no obvious chips etc. Any ideas what would cause this? The car has been parked flat, ie, not one wheel on a kerb so i cant see chassis twisting being the cause. I even looked underneath to see if the car has been in a previous accident but all looks good.
Ive got insurance but would like to no the cause before proceeding.
Also  binnacle that is attached to the top centre of the screen (the bit with the sensors). Is that taken off and put on the new one or does the new screen come with replacement sensors?
cheers for input

I thought the days of screens cracking on their own had finished :( My 2013 CX5 cracked on it's own in the shape of a "J" from the top of the screen across the sensor area whilst parked in hot sun for 2 hours at Kedleston Hall near Derby. Long story short the dealer said it was a stone chip even though there was no evidence of a chip. Had to make an insurance claim. The new screen will come with the bracket to mount the existing sensor assembly and cover. Auto Windscreens got the replacement wrong, twice. The sensors/camera will need to be recalibrated as they've been moved out of factory alignment and they involve the smart braking system and the lane departure warning system. As there's no Mazda dealers open at the moment I don't know when you can get this done. (Unless you're classed as key worker)

Very good!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I'm pleased that there is a sense of humour around in these troubled times which will help us to get through this. Don't forget the locksmiths...

Assuming they're still open, Autoglass can deal with that issue.
