Title: Petrol 165ps Automatic
Post by: Handy Andy on October 04, 2018, 11:09:38 am
Hi all,
Has anyone got one of these yet?
Looking to test drive one when I find a dealer with stock but would be interested in owners opinions. I have driven the petrol manual and also a diesel auto, so no issue with the car just need to get my hands on the actual spec I am after to get a true feeling for it.

I recently drove a Skoda Kodiaq in both petrol and diesel form and they are like chalk and cheese, both good but in different ways hence the need for actual car opinions.

cheers, Andy

i test drove it and found the auto box very smooth indeed, but holding out for next year in the hope they will put the 2.5 petrol engine that is in the mazda 6 into th CX5, if they dont then will probably go for the auto regardless.

The auto is super smooth dont notice gear changes plus its a dsg box so u can go manual if you need too..no probs overtaking revs kick in super quick also sport button keeps it in gear longer whist accelerating..very pleased.

Pretty sure it's not a DSG - it certainly isn't in our 2015 Mazda 3 petrol and 2017 CX-5 diesel.  DSG's are sequential dual clutch auto shifting boxes. They have two halves of a gearbox, with one clutch for 1st, 3rd and 5th, and the other for 2nd, 4th and 6th.  Thus the next gear is always 'ready' on the other half of the box, so they have really fast upshift times.  They can get caught out with downshifting tho, since generally it's a higher gear that's 'ready' on the other shaft.  The Mazda is a torque converter box albeit a bit cleverer than the ones of old.

No worries mate :)
The non dual clutch auto box is one of the main reasons both our cars are Mazdas - as you say, they're really good to drive.

Spot on, Bert321. In fact one of my closest friends who just happens to be an engineer working for one of the better known German car manufacturers tells me that it's one, if not the, best auto box available. This is the prime reason that I chose the Mazda over other DSG available cars.
