Hi

Another update to my tailgate issues.

So I did try swapping over the tailgate latch mechanism (ebay used for £25) and the external central locking switch (ebay used £15) on the tailgate to the right of the normal boot switch. Neither was successful.  The one obvious part being the actual switch itself but seemed to very few of them around when I looked (possibly one in France for £80).

At that point I started to wonder if it was another problem, for example not detecting the key or some connection issue.  I was resigned to taking it to a Mazda dealership but in the end I tried an auto electrician.  He came to me and had a look and quickly demonstrated that it was the obvious part, being the boot opening switch itself.  He was able to close the circuit and the boot opening actioned.  The switch itself was clearly water damaged and he did try a temporary repair but it was too far gone so we left it that.  To be fair he charged £70 call out (SW London) and £20 for the work/inspection but I'd already stripped the tailgate to be fair.  Even so relatively reasonable.

After that I took another look and found the part on ebay for £35 and got that through and all back up and running.  I did add some tape to the switch inside the tailgate in an attempt to protect from any water ingress.

I don't know how much the part would be from Mazda but wouldn't be surprised if it was £100 for what is a basic part really.  I did see a bunch of what must have been Chinese pattern parts on Aliexpress for around £20 but didn't fancy trying that route.

Anyway, hopefully useful info for somebody and probably best to start with the obvious part after all if you can find one!  The tailgate trim was all reasonably easy to dismantle and put back together although I did need to buy a couple of trim clips that had broken.

Vehicle Electrics / Reverse Camera Not Showing On Screen
« Last Post by m_duffell on May 11, 2023, 09:07:18 am »
Hello All

I’m new to the group and new to Mazda. I’ve always had German cars but heard great things abou Mazda and love the CX5 so I bought one. Unfortunately my first experience was that the car we bought privately needed. New gearbox and clutch so not a good start, but it’s due out of the garage today and I’d like to start enjoying it.

One thing I noticed is that there is a reverse camera fitted but only the parking sensor display comes up on the screen. Does anyone know if this is a settings thing or is there an issue with the camera? I called Mazda and a replacement is £200 so if it does need a new camera do any of you know a cheaper way to repair?

I appreciate your help.
Thanks

All my experience with the SD Navigation card from Amazon was frustrating and disappointing, I decided  to risk and buy from Naviworld but to be fair without hope at all. I tried to check site before purchase, things seemed to be pretty good but I had that strange feeling you know. But .. I got my parcel! That was like a great sign already! Guys, it’s OK, it’s working ! We will see how it will be in use but now everything is absolutely fine! So relieved  ;D

so that’s the link

Diesel and DPF issues / I thought it would never happen to me
« Last Post by oldsteel on May 09, 2023, 07:39:46 pm »
I know its a well worn topic, but I am now looking at a £3-6k bill to get my 2014 AWD auto back on the road. I have 112k on the clock, the rest of the car is running like new, suspension tight, no rattles, no leaks, always serviced by Mazda. I have had the car since 2018, and until recently only needed to do the wear and tear stuff on the brakes and the odd suspension bush. I am not doing many miles in it now, probably less than 10k a year. Last November at 108k miles while cruising on the motorway the dash lit up like a christmas tree and the car went into limp mode. I discovered if I stopped, switched off the engine and restarted it would be fine for a few miles.  AA man diagnosed faulty turbo and Mazda agreed, fitted new turbo at a cost of £2k and it was all sweet again until 3 weeks ago when the serpentine belt snapped, luckily close to home. Back to the dealer again (fitting a new belt is a bit of a pig as you can't get at it without dismantling other stuff) who charged a reasonable £100 to fit a new belt. BUT, they advised me that the coolant pressure was high, a sure sign of a failing head gasket. Sure enough, this has been verified. I knew all about the DPF and oil contamination issues, but thought it would never happen to me. Looks like a classic pattern, turbo failure, head gasket and probably a recon head. Now it has happened to me and it looks like that 110k miles probably the limit for all these 2.2 diesels, which is very poor.  I have a mate with a 2013 Mazda 6 with the same engine coming up to 90k miles and I have advised him to shift it while it is still running well. The word is out in the motor trade, and Honest John website simply states not to touch any 2014 or 2016 CX5 diesel. They go on to add the petrol version is 'bulletproof'. Rather than fix it I am going to sell it as a non-runner for just over £2k and invest in a newer model. I have asked Mazda Uk if they will help but I just get the stock answer about warranty limitations. Has anyone had any joy getting 'goodwill' support from Mazda UK? I have read there have been some successes in Oz .....

General Discussion / 2.2d Injector removal question.
« Last Post by SteveAWD on April 28, 2023, 09:28:06 am »
As the engine/gearbox page has gone all but very quiet, I thought I'd post this question on here.

Has anyone who has removed the 2.2d skyactive fuel injectors had any big issues removing them? I want to take the top off my engine to check the exhaust cam for wear. I've heard from one guy who says they are a problem coming out but then, I've seen a lot of videos online where there hasn't been any problems. Thanks.

Troubleshooting / Dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree.
« Last Post by rmh2967 on April 26, 2023, 09:27:00 pm »
Hi. I thinks I am ready to drive my CX-5 into a wall!
A couple of months ago I serviced my car including changing the fuel filter. Everything was fine up until this point. Changing the fuel filter means having to remove the battery. On putting everything back together I was very happy the job was done. Soon after, my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree with nearly every possible light coming on. This included the TPMS inspection required, SCBS inspection required, the tyre pressure light, red triangle warning and traction control light. However when the ignition was switched off, the lights would go out when switched on again. Occasionally the engine management light would also come on.
I took it to a Mazda dealership who put it on their diagnostic machine but couldn’t find any faults as, Sod’s Law, the lights didn’t come on when I took it there. I have looked on YouTube and found a very promising video where someone had the same problem. Their diagnosis was a faulty exhaust pressure sensor and DPF sensor, which I duly bought and installed today. I have also taken out and cleaned the MAP sensor which was totally choked up with hard soot ( mine is a 2.2 diesel 2014).
I thought my problems were solved, but no. I took it out today after fitting the new DPF sensor and once I put the accelerator down to give it some welly, the lights came on again!
I really have reached the end of my tether and run out of ideas. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you solve it? I’m losing sleep with the frustration this has caused me.

Returning to car after run with dog, entered car but instead of
dashboard lighting up on entering car, just saw "Steering Locked".
Eventually after pressing START button a few times, dashboard lit up.

Engine/Transmission/Powertrain/Exhaust / Re: 2.2 Sport Nav takes off with a start!

Bit of an update to our 2013 2.2 skyactive CX5. Auto AWD
New turbo has been fitted plus a de-coke and DPF regen.
The car now performs more or less as it should apart for just a couple of things which I'm hoping, with some advice from people on here, will tell me what to look for.

Turning the engine on (from cold) it runs on tick-over fine but as soon as drive is selected (its an auto) the tick-over is not good at all. It misses a beat on a regular basis. Take it out of drive and the tick-over returns to normal. This missing goes away when the engine gets up to temperature.
The second thing is that although there's no smoke from the exhaust, it smells of diesel fumes and in the 300 miles or so we have covered since the de-coke I've not seen more than 32mpg on the dash display. The mechanic who did the de-coke said "they all smell like that" but my 3.0d XF doesn't at all. Also, does anyone know where the engine block breather is situated as that was the next check I was going to do if I can find it!
Any input on these problems would be most welcome as I've checked most things but I can't track the problem down as yet.  Thanks.

Maintenance / 4th Yr service
« Last Post by HarryK on April 18, 2023, 02:09:27 pm »
Dealer just rang to remind me my 4th year service is due. I'm a bit reluctant as the car has only done 11,400 mls from  new, cost is £349. I'm tempted to give it a miss, any thoughts?
