Hi, I was driving along nice and bonny then as I joined a dual carriage way the engine seemed to judder as if I was in low gear and the rev counter was erratic,(I was only in 3rd).The problem soon disappeared after a couple of seconds. Got back in the car after I had been visiting started with no issues then after approx. 5 mins running the engine cut out with no warning lights . I called for the AA for assistance ,he plugged in his diagnostics to check for faults. Nothing came up. Now when you start the engine the starter turn over fine and the crank is turning...Anyone else had this problem.?

Your description sounds like what happened to me with my 2012 175 sport. All hell broke loose for a while, but then it carried on almost as normal. If so, its possible that you have one of the early engines that had a production issue with the camshafts. In my case it caused a turbo failure (it could be heard faintly whining) and did significant damage (which was fixed under warranty). There's some info on the pages below regarding this, including the VIN numbers affected.

If yours is in the range of VIN numbers affected, report it to Mazda ASAP, hopefully they'll do the decent thing. However, this has never been subject to a recall and many dealers will deny any knowledge of the problem. It's worth printing out some of the pages from here when you take it in. I assume its drivable at the moment? If so, I suggest you don't use it until its been checked.

Not sure if you are saying it runs or not but keep us updated on what is being done but will probably be another camshaft

Hi,when you push the start button, the starter motor turns and and its actually turning the cam shaft even when its on the diagnostic machine its showing theres an output on the shaft.(I'm also no mechanic I'm just feeding back what the AA man said and also what my local mechanic says).so now the mechanics next step is to removed the timing belt cover and see if the chain has slipped/jumped.looks like I'm going to have to cash some shares in .

So it doesn't start then. What miles has the car done? If cam is turning then the chain must be ok but it could have slipped if its gone slack. Still could be worn camshaft lobes f it is you should try to get Mazda involved as it's a known problem and they may offer some goodwill and pay for the repairs.

hi folks ive had it repaired and it was the cam shaft lobes.Completely worn down, Mazda wouldn't even entertain me in any goodwill gesture which I found disappointing as it is a known common problem.. £900 inc VAT new oil ,engine flush and filter

A disappointing response from Mazda yet again... It might be worth talking direct to their customer relations people at Dartford (rather than through the dealer); if you stress the "known issue" element of this, you might get lucky.
My concern now would be whether the debris from the cams has done any damage elsewhere, which may not show up immediately. If you're planning on keeping it for a while, it would be worth considering taking out an extended warranty policy somewhere? Or get something in writing from Mazda that covers future engine issues as a result of cam debris?

Yes in the past the swarf from the camshaft has often damaged the turbo but a good flush maybe ok.

My understanding was (from when my turbo blew) that it's wasn't swarf in the turbo, the swarf blocked the very small oil feed pipes to the turbo bearings, which then failed.
