old storey heater matrix

Hi every one this is my first enquiry, I think this may have been asked before, car purchased May this year 96,000 mls on clock, weather has got colder heater not good. I have flushed several times but not got any better, in fact bloody cold. Can any one recommend a good flushing agent I can purchase, I think I heard of one that may have been acid type. Car has been used for towing caravan 1500 kg and does it great. Now covered 104,000 mls. Any help would be great. Mike P

i had my heater matrix changed out on 2012 model due to manufacture fault on it, was still in warranty.

I had this same problem with my 2014 CX-5 this year - what fixed it for me is a citric acid flush which I read about on other forums.
I gave the heater matrix a good flushing through with water and then blew out the remaining water, then poured in a solution of 1 litre of near-boiling water with 100 grams of food-grade citric acid mixed into it. I left it for ten minutes before flushing out again from the hose in both directions for a few minutes - it's been a week now since I did it and so far the heater is working normally again.

*** NOTE - I did this to my own car at my own risk - I probably wouldn't advise doing this due to the risk of damaging your cooling system or causing a leak in the heater matrix! This is also only a short-term solution as the matrix itself is defective I believe, and corrodes/rusts internally and will continue to do so until it's changed :( **

HI all, I have now carried out the recommended flush, and as said heater now working IE hot air!. Thanks for advice will keep you posted as and when new matrix ( core) is fitted. A local radiator man said he could make one from brass and copper, will give this some thought when the time comes.Mike
