Sunroof left open overnight and heavy rain this morning
« on: June 25, 2019, 08:59:45 am »
We’ve had our CX-5 a week now and yesterday my missus left the sunroof open in the tilt position, it rained last night and was raining heavily this morning which was when I noticed the open sunroof, which I ran out and closed before mopping up the water on the seats (the leather did a good job of beading the water) so hopefully no water has penetrated the seat electrics. Once the rain had stopped I went out and wiped away the rainwater from the sunroof and surrounding area, then opened the sunroof to the tilt position and used plenty of kitchen roll to mop up the water trapped inside around the rubber seal just under the rear edge of the sunroof and along the sides around the sliding mechanism which as far as I can see I’ve managed to do.

Is there anything else I should do?

If you have a dehumidifier I’d put that in the car and leave it running for a while. Failing that drive it with the aircon on full recirculation to dry the air out and remove moisture. Are the carpets wet? Or the centre console?

Amazingly just the front seats and the armrest on the centre console were wet, most of the water was trapped in the rubber channel/seal so it wasn't as though water was pouring in.

Good advice about running the air on on full, thanks.

Not wishing to contradict but the AC wants to be on fresh air so the moisture is carried out. On recirculation it will stay inside the car.

Would the AC not remove the moisture from the air and deposit it as waste water somewhere?

Perhaps use your seat fans too?

We’ve had our CX-5 a week now and yesterday my missus left the sunroof open in the tilt position..........

She must be related to my missus who, having assured me that she had closed all the top roof hatches of our rented mobile home before joining me in the Pizzaria, hadn't in fact done any such thing and upon our return from a rather enjoyable evening (apart from the rain that is) discovered that internally everything was swimming in water. The only dry part was the driver and passenger seats which is where we spent the night.  :( :( :(

Front seats on mine can be heated or cooled individually.
Noticed when cleaning car that the fans beneath seats are located
within a housing with grill at top :-*

Never had the cooling option before.

Hmmm, I'll check that out. My car does have heated seats but I wasn't aware the temperature could be controlled.

Inside the car. The windows would steam up because there is nowhere for the moisture to go.  In fresh air mode new air is brought in, dehumidified by the AC then carried out with any moisture through the vents behind the bumper.

The buttons to turn on are beneath the row which has the seat heater switch.
There are 3 cooling settings, from cold bum to frozen one!
And this is also my first mota with a heated steering wheel switch too!
