Title: Coolant leak to cylinder head replacement
Post by: penllysbach on October 15, 2019, 10:35:30 pm
Hey, my 63 CX 5 went into the garage on a recall and they found a coolant leak which they are now saying is a cylinder head replacement. I am utterly ignorant of car engines,. The car has been regularly service and nothing raised at last service by the garage.
I am now facing another £2k + bill (4k turbo replacement earlier this year .. also found on recall). Any comments/suuestiobs/advice pls would be great.
I have found the following ...http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/archives/2019/04/17/2003713534
Thanks

Have you spoken to Mazda about it?

Next step, just wondering if others have had similar issues.
Thanks
Only issue is that you have to speak to the garage, not Mazda ... unless you know where to find contact details? I have already instructed the garage to speak to Mazda but no update from them :(

I emailed Mazda and have rcvd the following ...." We note the request for information as to why cars have not been recalled in the UK for this issue when other markets have issued recall for what is assumed to be the same issue. We are not able to comment on other market recalls as other global markets will have different recalls owing to the countries legislation, circumstances and legal requirements. Some of their models are built in different production plants. Parts are often from a different source than those built in Japan for the European market and their engines can be different/ larger capacity with different components."
The have offered 25% contribution.
I have asked the garage for further info on how this has happened but essentially they said they will never know, but they have not explained how they found the issue.

The main problems affecting 2013 cx5 in uk seems to be camshaft/turbo/ oil filter blockages. I have not heard much about cylinder head problems and they have been around 7 years now. The recall link you show in your post seems to be showing a fault that occurs under a set set of circumstances and reduces speed when they are met, probably not on uk cars as there were no recalls and not heard of any failures. If you have a full main dealer history and you haven’t done starship mileage then you should get some goodwill towards the cost but as the car is now 6 years old I would think 20-30% would be about it.

I think 25% on a 6 year old car is very generous.

Interestingly, when the turbo went earlier this year they contributed 80% ....
Should I email them asking for a little more ....
Actual garage still being slow, and have now said that I took the car in with a temperature and coolant leak problem. I have emailed to correct this, but am concerned it will affect my extended warranty.
If this were your car, would you get rid once it's sorted?
Thanks

Still await the return of my car; the warranty company are now doing their own inspection; does anyone know, is this the norm?
Thanks
