Post by: dunhill1984 on October 25, 2018, 06:32:10 pm
Thought i would top up washer fluid for first time ,that went well(dont know why theres a long plastic dip stick type thingie attached to lid though) anyway when i tried to unhook the prop it wouldnt come out of hole in the bonnet ,wriggled it for ages then i managed to free it --i was fretting how to get the car to dealer to fix whilst driving along with bonnet open ::)
any one else have the same prob?
i think i will use the wife as a prop in future ;D

The long dipstick thing is actually a dipstick.
Try lifting the bonnet a little while pulling the prop, it's shaped to sort-of hook into the hole.

dunhill - I know exactly what you mean. I found out on my new 2018 that there was a little bit of excess plastic on the plastic part which engages with the bonnet hole. This excess plastic looked like the remains of when the plastic has been taken out the mould. I used one of my wife's old nail files (with permission)!! to file down any sharp ridges. No damage done to the plastic and the whole thing feels smooth and engages properly with the bonnet hole. Incidentally, my 2012 and 2016 CX5 were smooth with no problems. I didn't bother to take it back to the dealer as they would have either said "It's a feature sir to help keep the bonnet up" or they would have broken off the plastic completely, "There you go sir, problem solved"

Thick as I am but even I sussed that one out.  ;D ;D The question should be though - what purpose does it serve? Unlike the oil dipstick where you can't actually look down into the sump, the windscreen washer fluid has a clear plastic funnel/tubing so is quite easy to ascertain whether it needs filling up or not. Ah, just had a thought.........no forget it, one a day is enough.  ;D

washer bottle dip stick lid attachmant is maybe for stopping the lid from getting lost and/or stopping ice from forming if no additive is in the mix.
