Fuel system cleaner

Alfa 155:
When your Mazda goes for a service the agents tells you that a fuel cleaner needs to be added to get rid of the carbon on the injectors. Now this fuel cleaner is extremely expensive. Is there a cheaper alternative one can use? Mazda says if you put any cleaner in but theirs it will damage the fuel system. Is that true??

Gel:
Never had that touted to me; untrue you can only use their brand. Redex do cleaner much cheaper!

Alfa 155:
So one can use any system cleaner won't cause any damage?
