Guys, what's the low down on this electric handbrake, is it true that once it's on, you can drive off and it comes off automatically, simple question but new car will be the first we have driven with this and we have no experience, look forward to your comments and views

Yup. When you set it, at traffic lights for example, just put the car in gear and it'll release automatically.  Really easy and nothing to fear. Just takes a wee bit of getting used to. Only thing to watch out for , which I discovered this week, was on starting up and trying to move off with the parking brake applied, it wouldn't let me move an inch. When I put my seat belt on, everything was fine and it worked perfectly. Another safety feature, clever but a bit embarrassing in front of the missus. Boy, did she take the mick ! :-)

Auto release needs engine running, seat belt on and drivers door closed.

Just remember you never have to turn it off just on.

This is my first car with the EHB.
I haven't found it any trouble, but i always apply the brake on and off manually, i don't find it a problem having had a cable operated one for the last for a very long time (46 years).

Perhaps i should try the auto release.

Its also my first auto which the wife found difficult initially, managing to remove a door mirror reversing out of the garage, now we both like it, apart from the 4 mpg less than the manual gave.

Thanks x trail, notice you have the sonic silver, how are you finding that colour? I had a couple of silver vauxhalls 20 years ago. Have always liked the silver colour.

Sonic silver is great, an improvement over the last silver cx-5 i had which looked grey to me, this is my 4th silver in a row.
