Folding Door Mirrors Failed

(1/2) > >>

Pirate983:
Hi all. Another problem with my 14 plate CX5. I always turn the knob on the drivers door to fold in the door mirrors when I park up anywhere. Yesterday evening I went out and turned the knob to unfold the door mirrors as normal. However 15 minutes later when parked up and tried to fold the mirrors in there was no life in the motors at all! Both mirrors stay out. I can't even move the mirrors up/down/left/right with the toggle, it's as if the power has totally failed. There is no noise fo the motors even trying to move them. I checked the fuse but that is fine (tested with a multimeter). The heated elements in the mirrors still work when i put the heated rear screen on and the indicator lights inside them both still work. I'm baffled.

Got the car booked in for next Monday at the local Mazda dealer who should sort out under warranty but have any of you guys out there had anything similar happen? Can't seem to find anything on Google about it apart from some wiring diagrams.

BigAl:
If the fuse is OK and both mirrors have the same problem, my guess would be that the problem is with the switch on the door interior itself. I hope the mirrors don't need replacing, they are expensive. One of mine had a failure in the folding drive. The dealer insisted that it had been hit (it hadn't) and I had to pay for a replacement.

Alan.

Pirate983:
Hi Alan. I have no idea what has happened as the car was outside on my drive and the mirrors opened up no problem as I started the car, it was on;y after i finished my journey and turned the knob on teh drivers door to close the mirrors that nothing happened. Not even a glimmer of movement, no noise, nothing kaput! It's booked in for Monday so will see what they say, but I won't be paying :D

rmvf:
this happened to my old 6, turned out to be the switch at a cost of about £100!

Pirate983:
£100!!! Glad it's in warranty 8)
