Title: Wing mirror servo constantly whirring
Post by: Dfsnomore on June 12, 2016, 09:16:03 am
We have 12 plate sport Nav
Passenger mirror looks perfect and has no damage
But constantly as soon as power in car on makes whirring servo noise which is distracting and even with the windows up intrudes noise into cockpit.
When you hold wing mirror driver switch to 9 o'clock noise stops. Guess we could just take fuse out but then we cannot use mirror postponing or heating in mirrors.

Mazda main dealer want 290 pounds to replace complete wing mirror
Say not covered by warranty.

Any suggestions ??

Many thanks

This may or may not be helpful, but it could be a similar issue to what I had on my 2012 model. See here. http://mazdacx5forums.co.uk/index.php?topic=50.msg190#msg190 (http://mazdacx5forums.co.uk/index.php?topic=50.msg190#msg190) Sorry, nothing positive as I finished up having to pay for a replacement as well. I still reckon it's a design fault, especially as it can't be dismantled without destroying the glass.

Three options.

1/ Scrap yard.

2/ Take it apart and disable motor using if possible the mirror manually.

3/ Buy a new one, I paid under £200 for the 2015 new model dealer fitted.

I had one do the same on my new CX-3. It hadn't been forced or hit, it just did the same, wouldn't turn in and constantly ran with the ignition on. They did that under warranty. As suggested above, I'd definitely pull it apart. What is there to lose.

You could also see if the mirrors are individually fused and pull the fuse to stop the motor running, not ideal though.

With the pre-facelift models there is a known problem with the mirrors in so much as many owners report them to be vibrating (fluttering).  Here's a link to the German forum which I hope doesn't offend the Admins too much and is 67 pages long and will be of no use to you whatsoever if you can't read German lol. The long and the short of it is that this is a recognised problem and mirrors have been exchanged FOC in almost all cases. It might be that your problem has been brought about as a result of this vibration and putting this to your dealer might - I say might - give him some ammunition with which to get in contact with Mazda. http://www.cx5-forum.de/f11/aussenspiegel-flattern-1269.html

It's quite different to the fluttering problem.
