Title: MZD-Connect map updates
Post by: Psythepie on June 16, 2016, 12:11:20 pm
By my reckoning we are overdue the latest 6 monthly map update. Has anyone seen any info on it's release?

Just checked the update page on the website and that's correct - the last update was Nov 2015. Might put a post on their Facebook page...

Cheers BigAl. By the way, where are you looking to see the details of the last update? Do you have a link for future reference please?

I enquired via the Mazda CS webpage, response below:

"The map updates are supplied to us by both Mazda Europe and Mazda Japan. We are not given a date in which the updates will be available and are just sent over the software when it has been constructed.

I would recommend either continuing to check for these updates on the Mazda Toolbox, or alternatively, staying in contact with your local approved Mazda dealership who will be made aware once the update is available."

I't's here, but it may not work for you as I was logged in when looking at this? It should point you in the right direction, though.

Thanks again Al, twice ;D. I am a bit peeved that the only way (that I can see) to check for updates is to keep plugging my SD card into the computer, I've done it several times now over the last couple of weeks & am just a bit nervous that the constant plugging/unplugging from both car & PC could lead to eventual problems with the card or the cars ability to read it. I'm sure I'm probably worrying about nothing but hey I'm one of lifes worryers  ???. I'm also a bit annoyed at what I was lead to believe would be 6 updates over the 3 yr free update period (1 every 6 months) is likely to be at least one less!

Post by: BigAl on June 17, 2016, 11:47:48 am
You're welcome. I don't think that repeated unplugging, etc, would do any harm - it didn't on my first one (TomTom system) over the 3 years/70K miles and I was probably updating that every couple of weeks (it worked differently to MZD).

Have posted a question on Mazda Facebook page, no reply as yet...

Agreed.  These cards are designed to cope with thousands or tens of thousands of insertions/removals - don't worry.  They were originally designed for use in cameras after all.

You always have the option to backup your original; restore can then be done without problems.

I personally used a backup from my original SD-card to a faster medium, a class 10 SD; the original still works OK, but the newer card loads the Nav much faster.

Aha! An answer from Mazda, albeit a vague one...

Mazda UK Thanks for the enquiry, we’re hoping to have a map update shortly yet currently no specific dates available. Is there a particular feature or just waiting for the latest mapping? We’re here on 03457 48 48 48 if you’d like to discuss

OK I'll stop worrying about the card & will look into getting a backup too.

Al, it's good that you got a reply so swiftly just a shame that it was so vague as you say. If there's no update in a couple of weeks I think I'll go down the Facebook message route too just to keep the pressure on & let them know that there's more of us out here waiting on the 'promised' updates.

UPDATE AVAILABLE 04/07/16 Have just checked for updates again & I have an update available, it says it's dated Nov' 15 but as there was nothing there last week I'm hoping that's just an admin' error on the data providers part!

That's odd as the last update I have was in Nov 2015.

Same here, the thing is in the last few weeks when I've plugged the SD card into the computer & checked for updates I've received a message along the lines of 'your card is up to date', however when I plugged the card in today I got a message to say that there was an update available it was just that it was dated as Nov' 15 hence me saying hopefully it's just an admin thing & should have said July 16?
Anyway I installed it but a quick look on the way home from work didn't show anything that I could say had changed so who knows.

I'll check the file size before I update mine, hopefully they will be a difference.

Free map updates, not much use when they're out of date anyway.  I've paid for traffic updates, but a waste of money.

Just thought I would check for a update, normally a straight forward event.

Well an update was offered and I accepted, now I have a tiny irritating window with what appears at the moment a much more complicated navigation of the services.

Why o why do we have these constant changes often with no benefit to the user.

Window systems to me for example have improved nothing since win XL, I still have that on my old laptop using file manager is a doddle using that version, IMO.

So moan over can anyone see an improvement with the latest toolbox? (I've also lost my desk top icon)

Hi all, facing the same issue and decided to e-mail Mazda Customer Service (Netherlands in my case) and they responded promptly with the following information:

Code: [Select]
Tevens informeren wij u graag dat volgende updates gepland staan:

verwacht nieuwe update            :              augustus (2016)
volgende update verwacht        :              november/december 2016

Although in Dutch, I think you can guess what it says, expected new update: august 2016, next expected update date: november/december 2016

So 2 updates in a short time, let's hope this info is correct!

Cheers!

Hi BigAl, you are correct, the update is around since about 5 days. However...

Don't expect to much from it. We go from 'November 2015' to '4th quarter of 2015' (Yes 2015)  >:(

Major highway road (A4 Netherlands, Schiedam <> Delft) opened december 2015 is not included. I noticed a couple of corrections, so it's an update, but too old (in my opinion)

I'm very disappointed about the update frequency. And once they update it, maps are at least 9-12 months old...

I do not want to be negative, but I just downloaded the updates myself and found out:
It was a quite big update, but looking into the SD-card shows :  MazdaEur2015_Q4, modified 08/09/2016.

So one might assume the maps are still from the 4th quarter of 2015?

Hallo p38cyq,

We must've replied at almost the same time (read my previous comment), we noticed the same...
No doubt it is 2015-Q4 (What a shame!)

I did ask Mazda about this, they sent me to my dealer, the dealer says sorry, we know, please contact Mazda. And there it ends... (I gave up)

Just done the download and update.  Size of the file has increased by about 1% (6721mb to 6786mb).

Bedankt bvdijk.

However, I do not get your screen?

Since the MZD Toolbox update, I do not have a "snelkoppeling" (shortcut)  anymore on my PC, in order to access the MZD Toolbox I need to download the .exe from Mazda's website - over and over again.

Anybody has the same problem? BigAl, please comment?

Hmmmm...
That's a different screen to the one I get. I opened the Mazda toolbox then plugged the card in. I then had to update the toolbox software before checking for updates. I don't remember seeing anything that said what date the update actually was?

Wonder if the UK update is different to Europe?

Annoyingly, my car now tells me that I'm over the speed limit on many of the local roads as they seem to be incorrectly labelled as having a 20mph limit rather than the correct 30mph!

I downloaded the update yesterday.

Near me there's a new link road, the A5758 which forms part of my commute. It was opened in August 2015, and was on the TomTom map system since early 2015.
I was hoping this would be included so I can get traffic updates for my drive home, but it still isn't. Strange that the supporting construction work - an existing road was rerouted and a new roundabout built - is included in the update.

Sadly, with the MZD Nav system, there's no facility to feedback things like this. On the earlier models with the TomTom based system, you could log and feedback road changes, speed limit changes, etc, for inclusion in the next update. Yet another reason why the new system isn't an improvement on the old.

Having not used the earlier sat-nav system, I can only comment on the current system.

On a trip to Spain last year I found a road turn missing close to where I was staying.  I found that you can report items that are wrong on the 'here' web site so tried it - and found that in the Nov 2015 update it had been fixed (not saying it was down to my report mind you).

But the 'here' web site does appear to accept feedback - and I also found it useful to see if there were items that are wrong on my Mazda system which appear correct on the web version (indicating that it's just the update we are waiting for).

Hope that makes sense.

Interesting!  Was the missing turn on the Here map before you reported it?

The road I mentioned is on all maps. Here / google etc but not on the Mazda Satnav.

No - it was missing on the site and on the Mazda maps.  After Nov 2015 update it appeared on the update; and was then on the site when I went back.  I'm not saying that my report made the difference but if I do see something worth reporting I tend to log it if it's made easy enough.

Doesn't excuse the lack of regular updates on the Mazda system mind you :-(

Did anyone else have a problem logging in after the Mazda toolbox update? I downloaded the update and it asked me to log in with my email and password (I thought I logged in with a username previously?). Anyway, it said my password was incorrect so I clicked the 'Forgotten your password' option, entered my email address and it said the email address was not recognised. Ran out of time to resolve this morning but not sure now whether to re-register or try to contact Mazda to sort this out. Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks

UPDATE: I think the problem may have been use of capitals in my email address. I used capitals for the first letters of my name in my email address when registering but entered it in all lowercase earlier. I've just tried resetting the password again and it worked this time. Now getting the update but it's been stuck on "Preparing to download..." for a while...

I logged on this W/E and have a message saying another map update is available, but I can't connect to the update server - I keep getting a server error message.

I haven't been able to update the map software since I posted the message above on 20 September because of a "server error". I contacted Mazda through Facebook and they gave me number to call 03457 484848 - I think it's Mazda's UK customer care line. Rang them this morning and was told that there are issues with Mazda's European servers that they are aware of and are working on. The lady I spoke to said she will email me when there is an update.

Shame Mazda's don't update themselves automatically like Tesla's do...with entire system updates!

I've just attempted to install the latest update that people are talking about (I did one at the start of September which was the November 2015(!) map).  Unfortunately, there is no newer update available to me.

Is there really an August 2016 map available?

How do I tell what map version I have? The download I did yesterday took between 1 and 2 hours but the SD Diagnostic in the toolbox says "Map of Europe 2015 Q4 Expiration 01.08.2018"  ???

Just checked for updates & Mazda toolbox is telling me that my connected services are expired. Trouble is I purchased 3 years worth in January & the SD card diagnostics shows an up to date subscription, I can't proceed with anything however & the only options available to me are 'renew' which takes me to a purchase screen or' later' which opens a screen with a button that allows me to check for updates, this takes me back to the screen that tells me I've expired. Aarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Phythepie

I had the same issue. Your 3 years subscription is safe. Ring up Mazda Handsfree and they will be able to check. The original European Map with the car Includes Turkey and Russia, If you renew without including Turkey and Russia the Mazda Toolbox thinks you have bought a different map. Apparently, it is a bug  ::) which they hope to fix with an update.

Just had exactly the same issue, been trying to resolve this with Mazda UK who have just emailed me to say:-
"Thank you for the further email. We do not hold an email address for Mazda Hands-free as it is a Germany based company. Please use the contact us webpage or 00800 4263 7383."
I'd already tried the web contact form but got nowhere as the standard questions you have to answer to get through the form don't fit these circumstances...

File size increased marginally from 6786mb to 6898mb.

Have now managed to log back into the mapping update system (having uninstalled and reinstalled Toolbox) and it's now let me download the December 2016 mapping update. It's saying it's using 6789MB of 7572MB available on the SD card.

Currently 26% installed and I need to leave the office in 30 minutes...
