Hi Guys,
Just thought i would introduce myself. I'm pete and i got my 6 month old CX-5 a couple of weeks ago. Never had an SUV before and it is a huge change from the14 year old VW Passat estate that I'd had since new and finally sold on after covering a faultless 272,000 miles.
I had decided that i would get an SUV with 4x4 capability and i spent 6 months researching and test driving several different models before opting for the CX-5, which was always in my top 3 anyway. I'm thoroughly enjoying it and still working out what all the different buttons do and trying to familiarise myself with the infotainment system. I have noticed a big difference in fuel economy, it is way more thirsty than my VW but i would expect that from a heavier vehicle which also has an auto gearbox.
So that's about it. Looking forward to hopefully making some useful contributions to the forum and learning off you guys who have no doubt owned this model for many years. I do have a question regarding the sat nav but i will put that on the appropriate thread.

Assuming you've bought a reasonably low mileage one, the MPG should improve. I get much better MPG on mine with Shell's V power fuel - it costs more but works out about the same in pence per mile terms and extends the tank range quite a bit. My average after 44K miles is almost 43MPG (manual, not auto though).
The sat-nav/infotainment system is (IMHO) unfortunately the worst thing on the car, but ask away anyway!

Thanks for the welcome. The mileage has just turned 5600. I was going to put V- Power every 4th tank as my wife wasn't impressed when i told her it cost £65 to fill it :D

It may cost £65, but you don't need to do it as often... ;D

I agree with Twabrigs, don't let it get so low it just feels better parting with less money each time although its the same at the end of the day. I noticed that when its full full the first 100 mile looks free on the gauge, lol. my car is currently doing 38mpg @ 37000 mile against my wife,s 35mpg, @ 9000mile. petrol of course. enjoy.

Incidentally although I've never had a problem over the years with dirt in fuel or in the fuel line, my daughter's just bought a 2013 Kia Picanto with 20k miles. The first time we emptied the tank and refilled it, it spluttered and lost power for the next 20 miles or so. No problem since, and we're now refilling when it's down to 1/4. I don't know if it's possible there's some rubbish right at the bottom of the tank (or floating on the surface of the petrol) but it seems to have sorted the problem. Odd.
So anyway, there are maybe other reasons for not running it as dry as possible (plus the panic of where's the nearest petrol station when you have only 15 miles left in the tank..)
