Which of these can I fit myself?
« on: December 22, 2016, 05:58:04 pm »
Hi

I am picking up my new CX-5 on the 10th Jan and I would really like the following extras but which of them are something I can fit myself at home without voiding the Warranty or causing damage to the car?

My level of competence with Car matters would be low - I am very practical and have lots of tools which I know how to use but I want my car done right  :D

Rear View Camera
Temporary Spare Wheel
Mud Flaps - Front
Mud Flaps - Rear
Luggage Steel Plate
Boot Light Kit
Boot Mat with Rear Bumper Protection
Auto Folding Mirror Kit
Aluminium Lockable Roof Rack Cross Bars
Welcome Illumination - RED
Illuminated scuff plates

Any suggestions would be very welcome...

Hi Kenny Wecome,  Temporary Spare Wheel and Mud Flaps are very easy, I dont know about the rest, I had Auto Folding Mirror Kit done by the dealer as part of deal. As for voiding the Warranty best to aske Dealer when you pick it up. Sounds like your Christmas will be a little late this year.

Hi

My level of competence with Car matters would be low - I am very practical and have lots of tools which I know how to use but I want my car done right  :D

Rear View Camera - DIY if you're competent with electrics but can be tricky and IMHO not a big saving to be made over and above the dealer.

Temporary Spare Wheel - Yes, DIY

Mud Flaps - Front - DIY very straight forward job.

Mud Flaps - Rear - Ditto above.

Luggage Steel Plate - Um.....

Boot Light Kit - As for camera.

Boot Mat with Rear Bumper Protection - DIYable.

Auto Folding Mirror Kit - as for camera.

Aluminium Lockable Roof Rack Cross Bars - Not sure but can't imagine this to be a big job.

Welcome Illumination - RED - another member has already done this I believe so searching might help.

Illuminated scuff plates - as above

Oh, and a Merry Christmas  ;D

Thanks everyone and a belated Happy New Year to all.

I was able to get a great deal from the dealer on fitting all of these things plus the dealer matched the lowest purchase price I was able to find.

I was surprised at how different dealers charged different cost prices :)

In the end I decided that having gone to the expense of a brand new car I did not want to take the risk of my own Ham Fisted DIY messing anything up although I think I will give installing a Dash Cam a go as some of the installers charge as much or more than the cost of the Dash Cam..

Thanks gang  :P
