I've read that there was an issue with the pre facelift rear brakes on the CX5. Does this issue affect the 2016 face lifts?
Today after a day that covered about 100 miles, the passemger side rear brakes smelt very strongly and were really hot. I could feel the heat from 30cms from the wheel! I also suspect that the wheel had got so hot that it affected the air pressure in the tyre, the pressure alarm went off near the end of the journey but no tyre was deflated.
Has anyone experienced anything similar?

If your Tyre alarm has gone off and one disc is hot then YES - it is a common fault on 2015-2016 range in uk………….and to be honest I doubt if Mazda has changed the rear brake design on the new 2017 model, as only a small number of cars seem to have problems or the owners don’t belong to the Mazda forum.

Irrespective of whether it's a common fault or not - your brake seems to be jamming on and needs repaired. Take it back to a dealer and have them fix it under warranty.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. Mazda Assist low loaded my car to the dealer as I was informed under no circumstances to carry on driving it. The offending brake caliper and disc were replaced. Since then the tyre has worn considerably more than the others down to 3mm on the outside 4mm in the middle and 5 on the inside. All other tyres are 5mm across the tyre. I presume when the wheel got hot the rubber softened and wore out more quickly?
