Hi,
Which tyres (should) wear quicker on a 175bhp AWD diesel auto, front or rear?
I've only recently acquired my car and noticed the rears are more worn than the fronts. I would have thought it should be the opposite way round, so I suspect that the tyres have been rotated. However I'm happy to rotate them myself if I'm wrong. I'd be grateful if any of you long term owners could confirm.
Thanks :)

I could be wrong of course but I can't think of any good reason why the AWD Diesel, which is predominantly front wheel drive anyway. should be any different to any other FWD cars in that the fronts as a rule are the first to show wear.

Thanks Deeps, that's my train of thought too.

FYI, I invested in a proper depth measure at the weekend and checked mine as I'm thinking about changing them. The fronts are at 4mm, the rears at about 4.5 to 5mm, that's after just over 30k miles and they've not been rotated. If anything, these have worn less than the same tyres on my old CX5, which I had to change at 33k as they were down to the indicators (long story involving there being no Toyo tyres in the UK in that size at the time...) By comparison, my previous Forester went back at 75k miles/3yrs with the original tyres on (Geolandars), still well on the legal side.

Thanks Al, mine has 27k miles and the rears are about 4.5mm, maybe slightly more. The fronts have closer to 6mm.

Hi Alan, you say a proper depth measure. I'm always looking to add decent tools to my garage, care to share which one you went with?

Nothing sophisticated, but better than the old plastic one I had years ago (and lost)

That's what I use. Have had it for more years than I care to think about. :)

Many thanks, ordered.

Mine is the same. My Dad had it for years before I had it, and I've had it a few years too.
