Mine idles at 800RPM (was serviced on Wednesday), except when it does the fast idle start. I'd assume that all diesel models are the same...

idle speed on my 2016 cx5 has just shot up to 1800-2000 rpm just after start up ( cold start) held up there for about 30 seconds then returned to normal , switched off and restarted and every thing seems normal  is this emission related

No, these diesel engines all do it to warm things up.  Mine does it mostly on cold starts when the ambient air temp is in the low to mid teens.

Yep, occasional fast idle on startup is quite normal.
