Tuning boxes

Anyone used a tuning box on a diesel yet. I know there are issues around the warranty but used one for 3 years on my Alfa 159 and made quite a difference to both performance and economy.

I would be interested to hear if anyone has used one of these and had any issues.  On paper the claims they make to performance and MPG seem amazing but I would be interested to see at what the downside is.  Reading into it the process for fitting / removing seems simple enough but I would like to know if the past presence of one of these units would be detectable if there were issues under warranty.
