Title: 2.2 occasional stutter at cruising speed
Post by: mhulks on April 07, 2021, 01:49:55 pm
Hi
Our 2015 2.2 Sport Nav has given us trouble free driving. However recently, only occasionally, there is a brief shudder at cruising speed.
Had it looked at and MAF sensor was fine but MAP sensor was bunged up so washed clean. However the same brief shudder has happened on a drive today.
There are no engine management lights on at all. And seemed to be given a clean bill of health when the MAP sensor was cleaned.

Some owners are suggesting a walnut shell blast carbon clean is required...at a cost of £800 by Mazda.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

This might sound outlandish, but have you got your aircon system on Auto ?
This sometimes causes a shudder when activating.

Not from memory, I don't think.

I've never noticed it coinciding with messing around with any aircon settings.

I've definitely had that once or twice in my 2018 2.2 sn, it's making me want to sell / PX it before the warranty runs out.

Hey Andrew T - I know, i'd be lying if I hadn't been thinking the same. What mileage has your vehicle done?

I’ve had this exact problem and it’s getting worse, shuddering and juddering at low speeds. Done a lot of reading on this and I think I need a carbon clean out. I removed the MAP sensor and cleaned it as it was totally caked beyond belief, didn’t make a difference and I think I need to clean out the EGR valve, bypass valve, EGR coolant tank and anything else I can. I found a video on YouTube of an Asian garage removing the EGR valve and cleaning it. Looks like I would be able to do this myself so I will give it a go. Someone suggested I buy an ultrasonic cleaner tank to sit parts in as well, although at £100 it’s quite expensive for one use. My car had done 102000 miles.

How did the EGR valve clean go?
Any improvement?
My 2014 2.2 175ps sport nav at 85k is starting to stutter a bit while cruising and occasionally on acceleration - so possibly looking to get it cleaned.
I have cleaned MAF and changed air filter too.
Cheers

Did anyone solve this problem?
