Title: wheel balancing weights fitted not parallel to the wheel
Post by: routerunner on January 06, 2019, 11:17:58 am
Hi All,
I replaced my front tyres yesterday and went to a garage I never used before because they had a very good deal on Michelin Latitude Sport 3 and paid extra for their high precision balancing. The overall experience seemed good until I went home and noticed that the outer wheel balancing weight on both wheels were mounted not parallel to the wheel (about 15mm off), whilst the inner weights were parallel.

I've sent pictures already to their customer service and hopefully get a reply next week, but anyone knows whether mounting the balancing weights that way is going to affect the tyres? Tomorrow I will have a good motorway drive and will check for balancing especially on the 50-55 mph and shortly on 90 mph ;)

Cheers
Eddy

I doubt it will effect the tyres but agree it is sloppy.

After receiving reply from customer support I went to the shop today and, as you said, they confirmed that wouldn't compromise the tyres, I also drove the car on the motorway today and everything seemed fine. In the end I was leaving without doing anything, but changed my mind because I noticed that the balancing weights were mounted across the small edge close to the outer rim and surely that would affect the adhesion by leaving a small gap for water to penetrate, so I came back and they agreed to redo the balancing, and I somehow feel much better now ;)

Cheers

Good result.  Hopefully they will “rebrief” the person that did it as well.
