Title: Fitting a dashcam in New CX-5
Post by: Clarice on January 25, 2023, 07:37:12 am
I would like to know if anyone has seen the dashcam that allegedly fits into the shroud just in front of the rear view mirror. Does it need to be fitted by Mazda Technicians to maintain warranty or can you do it yourself ?
Having viewed multiple sites for dashcam sit becomes ever more bewildering as different manufacturers claim this that and the other. The thought of hiding wires effectively is another headache.
I fail to see why Mazda and other manufacturers don’t fit dashcams as standard given the number of collisions that plague our roads.

Must admit not seen that model of dash cam yet, must be particularly small, how do you retrieve the and view the footage if required?

It’s called Fitcamx, the shroud is used to house a forward racing dashcam but apparently it’s for US Mazdas and not made for European models…… yet. Typical that we lag behind in this.

I have sent a message to Fitcamx requesting information as to acquiring a system, currently they do one for left hand drive CX5s but it is unsuitable for RHD models. I see an open market here as the installation utilises the wiring loom in situ and looks unobtrusive once fitted. Will await any communication from Fitcamx regarding my query.

Hi

I've emailed fitcamx as well about a dashcam. They said they need the part so they can 3d scan it for UK models.
They offered to pay for the part if I can get hold of it.
I don't suppose anyone knows the part number and/or where to get it?

Email them again as I have just fitted one in my CX5.

I sent the parts and got a £10 replacement from eBay until the new one showed up.

Unfortunately damaged the plastic connector/grommet for the rubber boot on the tailgate, can only buy it as part of a wiring harness. Trying to source a second harness with the connectors in good condition.

I've just used the Dongar connector to fit a Nextbase dashcam. This is a "traditional" dashcam, but the Dongar plug and socket allows you to draw power from the supply to the auto dimming mirror, and avoids the hassle of routing cable from the fusebox and behind the seals around the door frame. It's an easy fit, nestling behind the plastic shroud behind the mirror. Unclip the power supply, insert the identical male plug into the female receptor, and v.v with the other plug, and you're left with a USB power supply for any dashcam that uses a USB supply. My Mazda is the 2023 Homura.  NB Dongar is supplied from USA and cost about £38 including shipping. NBB it needs the 10 pin plug, not the 5 pin plug recommended by Dongar's web chat facility. Best to unclip the shroud first to see your power supply behind the mirror.
