Title: Do I have welcome illumination?
Post by: twabrigs on May 29, 2014, 09:22:28 am
Just bought CX5 2.2D 175PS Nav AWD on a 63 plate, ex demo car with one or two extras that I have identified. There are two slightly pathetic circular red LEDs in the front footwells which operate with the interior light. Do I have 'welcome illumination'?

The amount of light they emit is pitiful, and nothing like the angry red glow shown in the brochure.

My dealer is 400+ miles away (went a long way to source the right car!) so I can't pop in to check.

Thanks!

Mine's a 2012 model, so that wasn't even an option then. However, I've got used (in general) to Mazda stuff not matching up to sales specifications or expectations, so I wouldn't be surprised...  ::)

 :)

Glad I didn't pay for it myself then. The LED daytime running lights and illuminated scuff plates the demo also has are quite fun, but I'd never have specified them myself either. All in all though, very happy on day 3 of ownership..!

had illum scuff plates fitted transforms the look when you open car door,
going for mud flaps and welcome illum and rear bumper step plate this month.

illuminated scuff plates are nice, but trust me the welcome illumination is not worth the coin.

I specified the scuff plates and step plate when I ordered. Both good although the step catches a lot of dirt.
Why does Mazda charge extra for LED running lights when they are practically standard on most new cars?
They have done some trickery with the switching so they go off when you apply the handbrake - do I really need that/

I fitted LED bulbs in the running lights which cost far less than the standard filament bulbs.

They turn off when the handbrake is on, and when the headlights are switched on. Most cars seem to keep them on all the time.

love the scruff plates but agree welcome illum, total waste of money for what they do
