hi guys,
about to take the plunge and buy a used cx-5. need something that is ulez compliant and will see us out for the next few years. been looking actively for the last few days, my budget is around 8k mark and preferred trim is the sport or sport nav.
looking for something 2012/2013 with ideally under 100k on the clock.
what are some things that i need to look out for when buying?
when is the timing chain meant to be changed on these cars?
is the awd preferred over 2 wheel drive?
any help would be more than appreciated

i am royally confused now! wondering whether to just go for the 2.0 petrol. in fairness majority of the journeys will be shorter and i would prefer lower maintenance costs.
i have had diesels in the past, not really had many dpf issues but i do take the cars on extended runs every now and then and also get a carbon clean yearly
strange how the petrol car prices have shot up in the last year or so!

If you do mainly short journeys then go for a petrol. There are too many horror stories around with the diesels if you’re that unlucky guy. I’m on my 3rd diesel over about 5 years and, while I’ve had no engine problems, I wouldn’t own one out of warranty.
Edit... all of mine have been under 3k miles and under 4.5 yrs old.

thanks @bert321
unfortunately im not in the position to buy something under warranty. this ulez extension has really done a number of londoners! going to trade in my current car and top up with a bit of cash.
