Title: Normal mileage for a brand new car
Post by: zak on March 02, 2016, 03:17:37 pm
Hi everyone, newby here. Just got a phone call from my dealer and the car just delivered to them today and ready for collection on Monday. What was the mileage on your CX5 upon collection? The last time I had collected my sportage brand new was 30 on the meter and I am not impressed. Thanks.

Blimey,

You Guys are dead lucky, if you bought your CX5 via a Broker, (as I had the misfortune to do), if you lived in Truro, the car would be delivered from Aberdeen, or, perhaps from Falkirk, I kid you not..!

Brokers seem to delight in sourcing their cars as far away from the customer as possible.

A word of advice, avoid Brokers4Cars, my motor was delivered from Manchester to Watford, in the pouring rain, probably thrashed down the M6, was filthy upon arrival, with 200 miles on the clock, service book not stamped, no V5, tank literally dry, the guy simply couldn't wait to dump it on me and hightail back 'oop North..

I even had to flag him down outside my office window as he was clearly lost, the delivery address was a firm of vehicle leasing specialists that the car had been pre-registered to, (unknown to me, I was owner number 2)..!!

You couldn't make it up..??

Cat.

Sorry to hear your awful tale Catamong.

Just to balance it with my use of a broker (DrivetheDeal).  My dealer was in East Anglia (I live in Surrey).  They offered to drive it down on a trailer or I could go to them and they would cover the cost of train fare.  I opted for the later as I wanted to go over everything while it was still at the selling dealer's premises.  I think it's a bit of pot luck where the dealer is - my previous new car via the same broker came from West London so very easy.

Mazda run this electronic service record which showed my CX-3 as 8 miles at the pre delivery inspection. It actually had 47 miles on it which "upset" me somewhat. I reckon somebody had gone for a test drive in it. However, I've told them I want to be there when it is backed off the trailer when I get the new CX-5.

My PDI says 9 miles but it had 37 on the clock when I picked it up yesterday...  Should I complain?

They will argue that they had to set up the engine parameters but don't believe a word. My CX-3 had exactly the same 37 miles on it when it cam and 8 miles on the electronic service record.  When I ordered my CX-5, I dug in and said I wanted to see it when it arrived on the transporter. They were very good and let me see it in the compound with surprise surprise, 8 miles on it. When I collected it a couple of days later it had 12 on it which is perfectly acceptable. Now I don't know where your mileage has come from. Was it damaged coming off the transporter or did they use it as a demonstrator?  It wouldn't harm for you to ask as it would be interesting to see what they say. Somebody at the dealer did tell me they are still considered new with 50 miles on but I'd like to know what would happen if you took one away with 8 miles and then went back at 37 and said it wasn't suitable and needed say a people mover.  Would they give you every penny of your money towards the change?  What is the difference between them putting additional miles on and them you doing it?

I spoke to the dealer a few days ago and queried it.  Apparently, all the cars in the south are 'staged' at a service depot in Weymouth where the PDI is done and any extras fitted (auto wing mirrors in my case).  He suggested that cars are then driven from there to the dealers.  However, Weymouth to Slough (in my case) is 120 miles so clearly that didn't happen!

I doubt I will ever get the truth - but talk about starting off on a bad foot with a dealership...
