Hello all,
I am new to the forum and a new owner of a 2013 CX-5 which I absolutely love!
Unfortunately, when I bought the car from Car Giant I noticed that the SatNav had a error message and when I questioned the chap he said
"It's just the SD Card, you can pick one of from Amazon for about £40"
So I didn't worry about it too much.
Well, I cannot seem to find this magical SD card on Amazon or anywhere else other than ebay.
Mazda (it saddens me to say) have be close to useless offering me no help at all.
The guys on ebay warn to make sure I check for the right version number before ordering but it all seems a little fly by night.
Please could somebody give me some advice on how I get a new SD card for the SatNav or how I verify my version number.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Zoot.

Have a dig around on the forum as I think this may have been covered already. I think that the TomTom Nav card is uniquely matched to each car and that most attempts to buy one off eBay or similar haven't ended well. I suppose it could depend on whether the car had the card supplied with it originally (now missing), or if it wasn't ordered that way? You may need to persist with Mazda on this to get the correct info. Try asking on their Facebook page, awkward and/or embarrassing questions do usually get a fairly quick response.

I have my original nav sd card from my 2013 car, do you live near S25 to try it.
As far as i know the cards are interchangable, its the 2015 MZD card that is unique to the cars reg or Vin, not sure which.

There is nothing unique with the SD card on a 2013 assuming you are using TomTom. Get yourself a standard SD card of at least 8gb, but important to have a high speed one (Small circle on the front with a number like 8 or 10) higher the better.
I guess the card in your slot is the original Mazda one as supplied and has probably expired; it was a limited capacity card and as updates were added over the years the card quickly became too small. It is likely the previous owner copied the files some time ago and subsequently added them to his own card which he/she kept on the transfer of the vehicle, leaving you with the old card and outdated set-up.
If you are registered with TomTom Home and don't mind "investing" in new maps you should be able to copy from their web site via your log-in; get your debit/credit card out and then you can download. If not registered, download TomTom Home and use your e-mail address as your log-in. Once you have paid your money & downloaded the file via "TomTom Home" you have ownership, so if the files don't transfer first time to your card you can play around until it finally works. If something goes wrong TomTom will help after all you would have paid your money. You can add Live Traffic later and update for the rest of the year.
In essence, be prepared to pay for at least one year of updated maps as you won't get much help otherwise from TomTom, and you may as well add the traffic - at extra cost - it is extremely useful and I have recouped the cost several times over.
One small thing however, there is a "loop file" which is added to your card from the car's own software in the nav device and it doesn't copy very well on your pc files; so pop the card in the slot on the car before you start. Might not actually seem to do anything at first as there will little else on the card. Then do your paid for download, you may find you have added your maps and it still doesn't work very well once in the car slot. If so take the card out from the car slot and put the maps on again, there is a lot of disparity on the "loop file" which I suspect is down to TomTom trying to frustrate you even further. It does suggest in the adding/updating process once you finish that you should do it all again and logic will probably make you question it, but is it not successful first time that might be why. Important ensure the slot door is closed when the card is in place in the dash.
If you go live traffic, when you try it for the first time might be 15 minutes before it appears and try to be in a good Vodafone area. If all else fails phone Tomtom cust service from your car with your account log-in details and if you are live through the nav system they can look at most things for you. It has been suggested the files cannot be copied, don't believe a word of it!
Finally feel smug that you didn't go through all the issues with TomTom and the Live Traffic throughout 2012 and 2013. Took a year to get matters sorted and nobody would take ownership. Ask XTrail man, He'll remember.

Alex has put it very well, he is a expert having learnt the very hard way :'( One thing I would add is after registering with Tomtom home get in touch with them explaining the situation , they can be quite generous with freebies and trial offers.
Hope it all works out for you.

Hi Guys,
Thank you for coming back to me with this advice, I must have an SD card knocking around somewhere.
I'll try this out and let you know how it goes.
I thought I was at a loss so the fact that there is possibly some light at the end of the tunnel is great. :-)

To answer a couple of the queries.
There isn't a card in the slot and I haven't registered with TomTom home.
How do I make sure I'm buying the correct maps etc?

You just select uk and europe maps from the options. And speed cameras etc.

Just realised an advantage to the new Sat Nav. I am now in the Isle of Man with no Vodafone, and I cannot access Live Services or update them. Not to mention how much the annual charge is for these services.

I have vodafone and find it very poor even in the uk where i live, wife has 02 which is much better.
If you only have vodaphone even the new nav will NOT give you live traffic as it requires a wifi hotspot to get it.
Poor as it was on reflection the tomtom was much better than the current MZD, having said that they both will get you to your destination.
And you do get some traffic with the MZD even if it's not "live"

Hi Chaps,
I thought I would give you an update on progress so far.
1.Purchased an 8gb Class 10 SD Card.
2.Placed SD Card in car closed the slot, started engine. - This time I got a different message which said "No Maps Found"
3.Placed SD Card in PC - Noticed the loop file.
4.Downloaded TomTom Home - It recognised the card but had a different user email address.
5.Registered with TomTom.
6.Started TomTom Home again - Logged in with my new account and it asked me if I wanted to associate this account with Mazda NB1
7.Selected Yes - It gave me a long list of things to download - Top one was maps and navigation then it had voices Tom n Jane etc.
8.Downloaded all files.
9.Received a message to put SD in car, wait, remove, return to TomTom Home.
So it's all looking really positive.
Am I right in assuming that the maps are available without me needing to buy new ones?
Thanks again for walking me through this.

Hi Zootoxin
Good news to hear you're sorted, the bad news is I am sure you will need to purchase any map updates, and pay an annual subscription for TomTom live ( traffic updates etc),
I have a 2013 CX5 and from memory paid something like £44 for a years map updates, and £55 for the live services.

I paid £59.95 in August 2015 for a year's Europe maps for my 2014 car

Tomtom do email offers from time to time.

They do, but even when non discounted price I think their network is well worth the subscription, especially when motoring abroad.

You are right re no Vodafone on the I-O-M. Who cares, don't need it except TT week. Only queue I saw was the area taking me into centre of Douglas from the ferry terminal complex.
I spent a fantastic week there last September and took the Mazda, visited every corner loved the place to bits. From Castletown for the sunsets, to Point of Ayre for the seals, and Old Laxey for a cuppa on the sea wall. Only downer was the transport museum up at Jurby.

Pleased to read a success story.
So, does it actually work in the car as I get the impression you have reached the bit where they want some money? If so makes some sense as after all they wouldn't provide old out of date maps, and to get anything current will mean paying some money. Once you have been given access to maps they are there for ever but further payment will give you updates. I renew traffic every year but maps at the start of year 3. I had free maps for one year by way of "compensation" and let that expire for two years then shelled out on a one year update.

Forget it if you come to the Isle of Man. No Vodafone, so no Live Services from TomTom. I have a very expensive piece of useless SatNav.

You should have been told when you looked at buying it. Was it new from a dealer? Or maybe used and "imported" from the mainland? Nevertheless they should have told you. I suppose the defence would be that Live Traffic is an add-on you'd need to have paid for.

Hi Guys,
Well, good news I now have fully working Sat Nav in my car!! I did have to buy the maps but that's no problem.
Thank you all very much for your advice you saved me a lot of messing about with ebay sellers.

IMO the tomtom is ok compared to the MZD system.
Good news that the TT is now working for you.
