Android Car Play on Mazda infotainment
« on: September 04, 2019, 10:56:10 am »
ANDROID CAR PLAY:

I wonder how other users get on with this app?
It does take over the native Mazda infotainment system, and bit of a faff to
get back to the normal (OEM) system.

My problem, which I can't see a solution to online, is that when it's in charge, &
I want to play a track from my phone, the Android screen that comes up, only offers
to play etc "PODCASTS" of which I have none.

Fiddling with menu I haven't yet found an option to play my MP3 tracks, without
coming out of Android altogether.
Anyone a clue?
(The phone is connected via Bluetooth).

I haven't tried yet, but I was told that Android Auto works only when a phone connected via a cable. Don't know if true.

Have a phone connected via Bluetooth, tuned on Spotify on the phone and it plays via media system (just much quieter than radio), no phone navigation is on the media screen, but skipping of trucks works.

That was my understanding as well

This is what I do. Use spotify to play the music via bluetooth but have Waze visible on the phone screen (in a holder), and have the track playing visible on the MZD entertainment screen. I have to override the volume limiter on my phone (Samsung S8) to get the volumes to match better, but you only have to do that once unless you switch the phone off.

I discovered the issue; my default media player on my Android phone/Windows desktop is
VLC Media Player. ON MY PHONE I HAD DISABLED Google Play, as it keeps prompting you to sign up to their £Subscription Service£. Once enabled, it then came up as
option to play my media on my phone; seems Android only lists Google's own Media Player.

Oh dear the Android message has reappeared saying that the car's security no longer meets Android's requirements. :-\

I can't be bothered to take car in for another s/ware update;
Android don't realise that people only have their car s/ware updated at the annual service, and if they keep changing security protocol, users will abandon it ::).

The new Apple CarPlay IOS13 interface is really nice;

Eagles may soar high but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.......
