Stonechips on Roof
« on: June 04, 2019, 09:43:44 pm »
Am I just unlucky to have around 12 stonechips on the roof of my CX5, most of which are on the first 12 to 18 inches from the windscreen, but a few as far back as the shark fin. These have all rusted under the paint, truthfully speaking, they do actually look as though the rust spots are coming up through the paint.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar, or do i just have rotten luck.

Thanks peeps

I've got three on the leading edge of the roof of my 2012 Sky Blue CX-5 and, like yours, they look like they've rusted up through the paint (I've got a ceramic coating but it was only applied when I got the car at 3 years old).

I recently asked Mazda for a quote to paint them but the bodyshop guy said the whole roof would need to be painted and that would involve removal of the windscreen and all that entailed. Reckoned it would be getting on towards 4 figures so ended up buying a touch up kit although haven't got round to using it yet.

I could have gotten away with 2 or 3 paintchips, I would have touched them up. I can live with a little blob of paint as opposed to a rust spot. I've been quoted £360 to have the roof repainted, but the windscreen won't be taken out to do the job.

Thanks for the reply by the way ????
