Front Passenger Air Bag
« on: February 09, 2016, 03:38:08 pm »
Something that has always puzzled me, and the handbook does not really make this clear, is that the Passenger Airbag light beneath the air-con switches (not in the instrument panel) remains illuminated - YELLOW - even when the said airbag is switched on i.e. normal running position.

I've noticed that upon engine start both front airbag symbols illuminate briefly and then extinguish but I can't figure out why this bright YELLOW indication beneath the air-con switches remains active and a distraction.

Anyone have any comments regarding this? I'm assuming here of course that it's not just my CX-5 that has this feature non-useful feature.

If I remember I'll check mine tomorrow but a quick look on the net suggests it's illuminated because there's no one in the passenger seat. It's warning you that the airbag and seatbelt pretensioners aren't active (as there's no one to protect). Try with a passenger and see if the light goes off.

I remember the USA comments on an issue with a seat sensor that a too light a passenger may not activate the seat sensor, presumably to activate the airbag etc.
