Has my Dash Cam been fitted badly?
« on: January 13, 2017, 01:27:54 am »
Hi all

I've just had a Thinkware F770 Front/Rear Dash Cam Installed - purchased from RAC shop and installed by Chameleon Codewing.

Went out in the car in the rain today and thought I'd check the quality of the recorded video using the Thinkware PC software.

The overall video quality is very good so I am happy with that but the top two thirds of the front image is above the area covered by my window wipers so that part of the video is obscured by rain drops...

and the rear image is upside down - seems as if the camera was installed the wrong way up.

Also the installer has placed the front camera so close to the Rear View Mirror mount that I can not slide the Dash Cam to the right in order to remove it - the Police in my area have warned locals to do this as there has been a rise in car break in's just to nick the Dash Cam.

My question is - is this normal or has the installer done a poor job?

Thanks all

I don't have any form of dashcam, front or rear. But that definitely looks wrong to me.

I'd say that's pretty poor. I installed my own, but you would have thought that a professional installer would have considered that it needed to be within the wiper sweep! If you are out in damp conditions where the screen gets mucky spray from the road, that will be pretty much useless. Also, to put in in in such a way that you can't remove camera from bracket is ridiculous. On my Blackvue, you can invert the image in the software, yours may be similar, but again - it's wrong. I'd be getting them back to sort it!

One thing I found quite hard when picking one was finding one that fitted where needed without obscuring the view out the front. My setup puts the camera half behind the mirror, that's within the wiper sweep. First photo is as I see it from my viewpoint.

Good find .....

I may be old fashioned, but I always thought it was inadvisable to mount anything directly onto glass with heating elements.  Anybody any thoughts on this ??

I didn't think that the front screen has a heating element only the rear screen. I think also that the op dash cam is installed wrongly, but I don't have one myself so have no experience of what the video should look like

I was replying to the previous post which shows the camera mounting on the rear window.  Not talking about front screens. :)

Chameleon Codewing came out today and
refitted the Dash Cam correctly.

Very happy ending.

Good result Kenny,

Would appreciate an update once you've had the camera running for a while. I may consider ditching the Blackvue if it plays up again.
