Auto brightness setting.
« on: January 01, 2019, 11:47:59 am »
Hi all,
My 2014 CX-5 doesn't seem to dim automatically at night, as a result the nav is quite blinging when driving in the dark. I have to go in to setup/brightness and manually change it to night.
Am I missing a setting?

As a side note, I usually have the lights on Auto to come on when it gets dark. Does this have any bearing on the display setting? Just a thought?

The screen dimmed down along with the dash dimming in mine.  Look for an auto setting in the brightness section.

I have it set to auto but it doesn't change.

Also any tips on updating the maps? I don't have the sd card.

Just noticed mine does also dim with the dash dim, but also has auto setting in the setup menu that doesn't seem to do anything.

Side note, the window and mirror controls on the driver door, should they all be lit? Only my driver window button is lit.

If you turn the lights on when it’s dark then rotate the dimmer to your desired setting it will always do the same when the lights are switched on. In the auto setting, the panel lights will dim independently of the outside lights so for instance if you go under a bridge while you have the sidelights on they will dim but they will go bright again when you come out even though the lights are still on.

With my CX-5 it doesn't matter whether the engine is off or on or indeed whether or not the lights are off or on. With the dimmer control rotated fully clockwise the auto dim is cancelled and the display will remain bright whatever the conditions. By backing off slightly i.e. anti-clockwise to a brightness setting that is personally suitable for daytime driving this serves the dual purpose of setting the display brightness to automatic with the display brightness being dimmed during darkness hours or tunnels etc. The radio/Navi console will also be affected in the same way.

Great, that answers it thanks.

Any tips on updating nav without the original card?

Any tips on updating nav without the original card?

Sorry can't help with that one as I chose not to have the nav facility installed in my car preferring instead my trusty Garmin DriveSmart 61 which, although some might describe as ugly being suction stuck onto the screen, has always been 100% reliable with maps being updated up to four times a year. No doubt someone will be along to answer the card question in the fullness of time.
