« on: July 05, 2019, 03:27:49 pm »
Afternoon people, my 2015 2.2 sport nav(facelift model)has got a Flickr and dim lit Led, contacted Mazda and they want just under £600 For a headlight unit ????????.
Now I have 3 options, buy a new unit from Mazda.
Local electronic garage said they can fix it and would be £250.
Any one had there's fixed this way..????

Or has anyone replaced with aftermarket units

Can you not ask dealer to make goodwill warranty claim?

I did and they said they would only reduce price down by £50 due to last owner not keeping up Mazda service history.

It might be worth contacting Mazda HQ again as there are a lot of cases of LED DRL's flickering on the Mazdas247 website among our US colleagues. It is a known manufacturing defect and many have been replaced for free outside of warranty. I can't see how replacing the headlights for free or for a very significant discount can be affected by any services carried out by a non Mazda garage (presumably after the 3 year warranty period) especially if the garage used genuine Mazda parts and was VAT registered. An oil change and brake checks etc has got nothing to do with the lighting system, has it???? ??? ???

It's a known fault as Jonno said. I believe there was a batch with a manufacturing fault that were fitted to 2015 cars.

Not directly related to the question put but may be of interest as it concerns LED lighting on cars. A consumer programme on our TV last night (Germany) concerned instances of motorists receiving fines in addition to points on their license as a result of being caught speeding by roadside cameras. One elderly couple were fined over six hundred Euros for doing more than 70km/h over the allowed limit. They of course swore blind that they always obeyed displayed speed limits and referred the matter to a solicitor specialising in traffic matters. Initial investigation and research by technicians both in the laboratory and by the roadside suggest the possibility of the frequency of LED vehicle lighting interfering with the frequency of roadside cameras resulting in false readings. In another example, and this was applicable to the elderly couple, careful inspection of the photograph that accompanies the fine notice revealed a very small portion of an overtaking vehicle and in addition one could see the exhaust pipe of a second vehicle that was obviously alongside the elderly couples vehicle. The points only became visible when the image was blown up to bed-sheet size. The elderly couple were reimbursed their fine and further investigation is taking place as concerns the reliability of roadside cameras especially as concerns the LED aspect of things.

Interesting post from Deeps. It makes it even more worthwhile to have a dashcam with built in GPS as proof to the speed of your vehicle and surrounding vehicles.
