Smart City Brake

I have noticed several times when driving round a roundabout that the automatic braking system has kicked in even though there is no risk of collision.  This has resulted in people behind me having to slam their brakes on and I am concerned that someone is going to run up the back of me one time.  The issue seems to be caused when another vehicle is crossing right to left in front of the car as the system seems to see it as a static object and brakes to avoid it but then release when the object disappears as the other vehicle passes.  I tried turning off the brake support but the light on the dash being on all the time bugs the heck out of me.

Anyone else experience a similar thing?

I've never seen that happen with either of mine. I think I've only even seen the SCBS system kick in 2 or 3 times since I've had it, each occasion when parking up near a hedge or wall. I know the spec says it only works up to 18 mph (with a range of about 6m) - when I asked originally whether that was was 18mph absolute or 18 mph relative to another moving object (e.g. you're doing 45 mph, car in front doing 30, does it work), Mazda couldn't tell me... A colleague who has adaptive cruise control on his Golf had something similar happen on a dual carriageway once. It was on a slight RH bend; the system picked up a stationary lorry which was parked in a layby thinking it was directly ahead and slammed the brakes on.

Om my 2013 I've never had it operate, so I asked the Mazda master mechanic to test it during last service, he said it was working ok.

Also I don't see anyway to turn it off on my car?

On the facelift model there is an option to turn it off via the entertainment system options menu.  When I do turn it off a bright orange light lights on the dash which is distracting.

It can also be disabled on 1st gen same way

this function is scary when it comes in but helpful when going in reverse . I must say it has saved a repaint of the rear bumper twice , the post was not clear in the rear view camera .
